Tourists in London

It has been a week since the interview and sim stuff. Nyck and I are making sure we have all of our stuff for London. The excitement is bubbling under the surface. If you are wondering, I am looking forward to the challenge that an indoor/outdoor race will provide. Plus it is an entirely new circuit. Even for the veterans. Thankfully it doesn't take long for me to get my stuff ready. I guess that it is one of the perks of living out of a suitcase. I find myself glancing at Nyck as he gets the remainder of her stuff in his suitcase. He is quick to offer his hand for the mandatory game of scissors, paper, rock. With one swift movement, I win.

"Are you ready to go?" Nyck asks as he flings the car keys in my direction.

"Yes," I respond as I snatch them out of the air. I am glad that we will be spending the entire week in London as it is somewhere that I haven't been to. Of course, I have been to Silverstone, Donington park and Brands Hatch but in all instances I avoided London. It doesn't take long for us to get comfortable in the car. It has been a couple of hours since we left Brackley and we have finally made it to London. A small grumble ripples through the car.

"If you don't mind I am going to find a place to eat before we head to the hotel," I let Nyck know of my plan.

"Go for it. You sound hungry," Nyck responds. After a few minutes of aimless driving, I found a nice-looking restaurant. Luckily for us, I am quick to find a parking spot. As soon as we leave the car I can feel Nyck reach for my hand. It doesn't take long for me to find out why. Like New York, London is busy. After a minute of scrambling through the crowd, we made it to the restaurant. Thankfully it looks quiet. A waitress is quick to show us to a spare table.

"Hey, Nyck I was thinking since we are in London a few days early we could spend some time as tourists. It would be a nice change," I announce as I begin looking at the menu.

"Yes. That would be a good idea," Nyck says. Thankfully we both are quick to find something that is friendly to our diets. It is the day after and I am a bundle of energy. It is due to the fact that I will be able to shake my duties to Mercedes EQ for the day. It is good as it gives me a chance to relax. It is the calm before the storm. Right now I am downing the standard bowl of cereal and yoghurt while I wait for Nyck to get ready. If you are wondering, I got ready early.

"Ok, I am done," Nyck remarks as he joins me.

"Finally," I respond as Nyck offers his hand for another game of scissors, paper, rock. This time Nyck wins. After twenty minutes of working our way through the London traffic, we have made it to our first destination. The Tower of London. Before you can ask Nyck wanted to do the truly touristy stuff. Not that I mind as I need a chance to get my mind off all of the drama. Thankfully it doesn't take long for Nyck to find a good parking spot. After a couple of minutes of walking, we made it to the entrance. I find myself reaching out for Nyck's hand as there are a lot of people getting through the gates. Nyck gives my hand a reassuring squeeze.

After a minute of wrestling through a small crowd, we made it through the gates. I find myself looking around. The courtyard is massive. There is also a sea of people.

"Where shall you go first?" Nyck asks as he takes a map from the information stand. With one swift movement, Nyck unfolds the map. After a quick glance, my eyes settle on going to the dungeon.

"We'll do a loop around to the dungeon. We should be able to see as much as possible," I reply as I trace the route with my fingers. There is another reason. It will also serve as a bit of a workout.

"Ok," Nyck responds. As soon as he does he has the map folded and in his backpack. This time Nyck reaches out for my hand. I grab it and with one swift yank, we are on our way. It doesn't take long for me to be in awe of how cool the castle is. After an hour of dawdling, we made it to the dungeon. We pause so we can have a break. Even though we have done an hour's worth of walking I feel loose. It is a bit of an odd feeling. I push it aside as I am enjoying my time with Nyck

"Are you alright Jess?" Nyck pulls me out of my thoughts.

"Yeah. I'm just relaxed for once. It's nice just being a tourist," I explain. That and I have the chance to spend more time with Nyck after the disaster that was a couple of weeks ago. Sure I am still a little annoyed that it happened but it is in the past. Nyck just nods in agreement. After another hour of dawdling, we made it back to the courtyard. For a place full of other tourists it was fun exploring the tower.

"Do you mind if we drive around London a little bit before heading to the next spot," I ask Nyck as I offer my hand for the mandatory game of scissors, paper, rock. Nyck considers my idea before taking me up on my offer. With one swift movement, Nyck wins again. I must be having a bad day today. Anyway, it doesn't matter as it gets Nyck and I to share daily driving duties. It has been six hours since then and we made it to our final destination. The London eye. Right now we are having dinner at the cafe before we hop on one of the gondolas. I suggested to Nyck that we go on the London eye at night. I notice that Nyck is a little restless. I put it down to the fact that he wanted today to be the perfect holiday.

"Everything will be fine. Nothing has gone wrong," I say. Plus the chances of anything going wrong on the Ferris wheel are low.

"True but Murphy's exists for a reason," Nyck replies.

"But it doesn't matter so long as you've enjoyed your day," Nyck quickly adds to his statement.

"That means that you have nothing to worry about Nyck. As I have enjoyed my day," I continue to reassure Nyck. Luckily for me, that seems to do the trick. We quickly polish off our respective meals. Nyck gently wraps one of his hands around my hand as we stand up. With a gentle tug, we head to the Ferris wheel. For a touristy spot, it is surprisingly quiet. I guess a majority of tourists want to see London during the day. Not that it matters too much as that means there is a small chance that Nyck and I will get one of the gondolas to ourselves. Since there are only a couple of people excluding Nyck and I the boarding process is quick. As I thought, Nyck and I have one of the gondolas to ourselves. I find myself leaning on the railing that separates the glass from the people. Nyck wraps his arms around my waist as he leans on my shoulder. After ten minutes we reached the top of the revolution. I am struck by how beautiful the lights are. It is as if they are stars.

"The only thing more beautiful than this view is you," Nyck has a go at complimenting me. I can feel my cheeks go red. A weird feeling is quick to manifest itself in my chest.

"Thank you Nyck," I can barely bring my voice above a whisper. Nyck lands a peck on my cheek making the weird feeling in my chest worse. We turn our attention back to the view. I wish we could spend the rest of our lives like this, however, we have a job to do. I have decided that I am going to savour these moments with Nyck. The thought makes me smile.

A/N I am finally getting to the pointy end of this book. I would really appreciate some feedback on Jess' journey. I wouldn't even mind if you had a guess as to how this story is going to end. Spoilers there will be some drama (if you know you know). As always I am going to ask that you vote and/or comment if you enjoy this story.
