A relaxing day at the beach and a request for help (Nyck)

It has been a few days since Jess joined me on a small holiday back home. Now I am returning the favour. It is proving to be interesting as Jess' other brother Tom is also spending time in Nice. Because of that Jess has decided that she really wants to have a little more family time. It makes sense as that is the reason why we were in the Netherlands. Right now Jess and I are relaxing on the beach. Well, I say relaxing however Jess is trying to get me into the water.

"Come on Nyck. Our stuff will be fine," Jess is basically begging.

"I'm fine sitting on the beach," I counter. Someone needs to watch the stuff. Unfortunately for me, Jess is persistent. With one swift tug, she has me on my feet. After a minute of being dragged, I can feel the cold water nip at my feet. Well, there is no going back now. As soon as I get deep enough I launch a torrent of water in Jess' direction. She mutters something in French as she swiftly retaliates. After the briefest of tussles, we turn to each other as we burst into laughter. After thirty minutes of relaxation, the time has come for us to leave. It was fun but we have some groceries to buy for tonight.

"Have you got everything?" I checked even though everything we brought fits into my backpack.

"Yes," Jess responds as she pulls some shorts and a t-shirt over her bikini. With a few swift movements, I have my spare top on. I am quick to offer my hand for the mandatory game of scissors, paper, rock. After a tense second, we reveal our choices. Unfortunately, we both chose the same option.

"I win," Jess remarks as we show our next choice.

"Anyway we should get going so we can get the ingredients," I draw her attention to the task ahead. After a ten-minute drive, we made it to the store. This time I am the one doing the following. Not that I mind as it gives me a chance to think. The problem is there are only a few days left before the season finale in Berlin. Those two races won't matter to me as I am no longer in the championship fight but I know for a fact that I will do whatever it takes to help Jess. It will be interesting to see how the finale is going to play out. The thing is I have faith that Jess will be the victor. The thought brings a slight smile to my face.

"What's got you smiling?" Jess pulls me back to earth.

"If I told you, you wouldn't believe me," I say. There is no way on this earth that she would as Jess has a habit of underselling herself and her abilities as a racer.

"Well, you wouldn't know until you tell me," She counters. She is right.

"Well, I was thinking that you will be this year's champion," As soon as those words fell from my mouth Jess looked at me like I was an idiot. "I'll believe you when the flag falls at the end of race two," Jess responds. At least she is not flat-out denying it. After a few minutes go by we finally have everything that we are after. The reason why we were relatively quick is because of the fact that Jess' parents already have a lot of the ingredients that we need. After another ten minutes, we finally made it back to Jess' parents' house. It doesn't take long for Jess' mum to intercept us.

"Do you two need any help?" She asks as she makes sure we have everything.

"No thank you, mum. Nyck and I should have everything under control," Jess replies. Well, we should, providing nothing goes wrong. We shall find out later if we got it right. We are quick to get to work on making dinner for Jess' family. After what feels like an eternity and a lot of mess we have finally gotten everything ready and just in time. There is a knock at the door. With that Jess excuses herself.

"Allô Tom," I hear Jess greet her brother.

"Bonjour Jesse. Est-ce que Nyck est là ? Je dois lui demander quelque chose (Hello Jess. Is Nyck here? I need to ask him something)," Tom is quick to get down to business.

"Oui. Il est dans la cuisine (Yes. He is in the kitchen)," Jess confirms. It doesn't take long for Tom to join me.

"What can I do for you, Tom?" beat him to it.

"Well umm... I was wondering if maybe," He goes for the invisible itch on the back of the neck.

"Umm... you could get a VIP pass for Jess' sister Mel without Jess knowing," He finally gets his idea out. I flash him a sceptical look.

"I can try but I don't think I can do it without Jess knowing," I say. The thing is I am aware of the fact that Melanie seems to be cold towards her. To be fair to Melanie she has the intention of seeing Jess race. To me, that is a good sign.

"Thank you. I'll let Mel know," He responds a little too enthusiastically. It has been a couple of days since then and I have managed to get a VIP pass for Jess' sister. Now I am just waiting for confirmation that she will be coming. Right now I should be relaxing with Jess as we explore the streets of Berlin, however, I am a little worried that Jess' sister isn't going to make it.

"What's wrong?" Jess speaks up.

"Nothing. I'm just waiting for confirmation that a particularly important VIP will be coming," I am being as vague as possible. As Tom said, it is to be a surprise.

"Ok," Jess replies. Before she can ask any questions my notification tone goes off. It is the text that I have been waiting for. I discreetly check it. Relief flushes through me. It is Tom confirming that Melanie is coming. Well, that means this weekend is going to be more interesting. I just hope it doesn't backfire for Jess' sake.

So this is the last fluff chapter before the season finally. Sorry if it is crap but I am still not the greatest fluff writer. After this chapter, there will be two chapters for the season finale. Before you can ask I am trying to generate some curiosity for them. Anyway since this is an author's note votes and/or comments will be much appreciated. Also, I noticed some inconsistencies in some of the previous chapters.
