While crawling out from under the old wooden table, the tablecloth made my face all dusty and I had to restrain myself from sneezing.
My objection was to get to the chimney and crawl almost all the way up. That way I could stick my nose high enough out of the chimney to smell who or what was out there. They wouldn't be able to see me that way and maybe I could even risk a slight sneak peek with my eyes.
The footsteps had already passed my house but I wasn't out of the clear yet, so I got up slowly and tiptoed to the living room where the chimney's entry resigned.
Great. It has always been my dream to climb an old dusty chimney with tons of disgustingly fat spiders inside. But a man's gotta do what a man's got to do.
I poked into the black nothingness with my pale fingers and was met with spiderwebs. Great, what else was there to be expected anyways?
I closed my eyes and mouth and started to climb up with spread out arms and legs in order to keep myself up.
After about three minutes of a whole body workout later, I made it to the top and slowly sniffed the air. The cold wind brought an all too familiar breeze with it. They were here.
It's over.
I could try to hide in the chimney for the night and hope that they wouldn't be able to find me up here but even I knew that that was childish thinking. Fully grown vampires have an excellent nose and they'd be able to sniff me out within seconds in a closed off environment. The outside was my best guess, I just had to wait until they were out of sight.
Where are they now?
I need to listen more carefully.
My position was getting slightly uncomfortable since I have a couple of sprained bones, 2 broken ribs and a broken finger. Being a young vampire, my healing abilities are basically non-existent and I need to throw in a ton of painkillers which I found in an old pharmacy in the last town, to block out the pain. The few scratches I have from another fight with a fox have been hidden under a bandage for a long time and I'm too scared to check on them because I know that they would make me throw up. I know it isn't good to ignore stuff like that but I just can't afford to take a rest.
I was able to spot some footsteps again. They seemed to be coming from the house right next to me. They were going to check out my house next. This is my chance. I listened as the front door opened and as the deafening silence took over.
This is my cue. Bye bitches.
And with that I swung my fragile body out of the small chimney. I ran in a full sprint, jumping from rooftop to rooftop into the direction of the woods. Almost immediately I heard my brother's fast footsteps as well. But I knew what I was doing. There was a small town nearby with a lot of humans. Surely they would help a poor crying 7 year old out. But I wasn't entirely sure how my brothers would react. They wouldn't just leave me alone after such a long time. Maybe they would even wipe out the entire village if they saw it fit, but it was worth the risk. They couldn't just chase a child screaming for help around a packed village, right?

The next chapter will be longer, I promise.
