"T-thats a c-curse, isn't it?" he whispered, completely at loss for words.
A curse? But Linda was no witch, she couldn't have performed the art of marking people with curses. And even if she was a witch, placing curses on people was highly prohibited and was to be punished with death.
"B-but what exactly does it do?" he continued stammering.
Silence followed
"Get Rayi up here, Rosen," Rei ordered in a demanding tone, seeming to have regained his voice.
"But what does Rayi have to do with this?" I asked confusedly. In response, I was given a look of utmost seriousness.
"Who gave you this mark, Faer?", he asked seriously.
It could've only been Linda, right? But it still didn't make any sense to me.
"A woman I lived with for some time, but she lived in a human village and she didn't seem to be a witch or something like that," I stated worriedly.
If that really was a curse on my back, then what would it do? I mean, Linda hated me, right? She wanted nothing more than to make my "beastly" life as painful as possible after she found out about my race.
"F*CK!" cursed Grimm loudly as he turned around on his heel and stormed out of the room and slammed the door shut. "RAYI, GET YOUR COWARD ASS UP HERE!" he yelled while running down the stairs angrily.
Now that I was only left with Rei and Alerus in the room, the silence became unbearable.
"Uh, so what is that so-called curse on my back about?" I asked awkwardly, trying to hide my panic.
Curses could cause the worst agony one could only imagine. Let it be physical or mental suffering, it wasn't fun at all.
I didn't know a lot of curses, but I did know some.
There was the Panil curse, which would cause the victim's pain tolerance to gradually lower, so that even touching a feather would become the most painful thing for them.
They couldn't stand, sit or lay down because putting their body weight on any part of their body was excruciatingly painful.
They have to stay in a well temperature body of water for all their life when their pain tolerance reaches a certain point.
There are certain institutions for those people suffering from a severe curse since curses couldn't be reversed most of the time.
Then there's the dementia curse, which got its name from a human condition that often occurs in high age.
The curse will basically cause the victim to forget a lot of stuff over time until they are left with an empty head, somewhat like dementia.
But the exact difference between the condition dementia and the curse is that the curse victims will be aware all the time that they are forgetting everything they've experienced or learned and they won't only forget things, but they will also lose basic instincts at some point, like blinking.
And while you don't forget certain stuff forever with dementia, the curse of dementia will make sure that you won't ever remember it again.
Usually victims of that curse are sent to an institution that will take care of them until they request to be killed because of the mental suffering they have to go through. We've got a pretty good system for this type of stuff.
There's also multiple types of curses that make you go mentally insane or make you feel miserable for all your life, but there are so many variations of them that I never bothered to study any of them by heart.
But if that's a curse on my back, how come I haven't noticed the effects yet? Maybe the mark hadn't been finished or drawn correctly?
"It seems like a mental curse, but that's the only thing I can make out. I don't know a lot about curse marks," murmured Rei absentmindedly, to which Alerus only grunted.
"But it doesn't seem to have any effect on me, maybe it's faulty?" I asked hopefully. This all seemed like a terrible joke.
I didn't get any response.
Suddenly the door sprung open and in came a heaving Grimm dragging a furious looking Rayi.
But at the sight of my back, Rayi stopped dead in his tracks and buried his heels in the ground.
Did he know about curses? Or why did they get Rayi?
While Rayi stood frozen on the spot, Alerus shuffled in a cupboard and threw a notepad and a pen at him a second later. Rayi caught it without a problem.
"Take your time," said Alerus to him.
"And Faer," he continued, "while he figures out the exact details of the curse mark, you will behave."
"Now give us the details of that woman, so we can pay her a little visit," spoke Rei, adding a slightly disgusted undertone to the last words.
