I need to start talking back to them or otherwise they will think I'm still that weak little boy I used to be. But I changed and became a lot more mature. If they don't treat me like that I think I'm going to go insane.
"Well maybe if you'd treat me differently I'd stay."
Hearing this, Rayi, who had been watching the scene unfold silently at his seat on the other far end of the table, spoke up.
"Eat the soup before it's cold."
My eyes almost popped out of sockets when I heard that.
"Excuse me? I'm not that little sickly boy you know anymore, I'm a grown up now and I want to be treated as such.", I stated calmly.
Rosen's understanding gaze met my annoyed one when he opened his mouth again.
"We are going to treat you differently, just not in a way where you'll be in charge of anything. You're the youngest of us after all and it's only normal for us to watch out for you."
Well, at least he's honest.
The others were already putting spoons of soup in their mouth and I didn't really want to start an argument I couldn't win due to me being outnumbered by 5 so I just started eating too.
We ate in silence until Alerus scraped his chair back and left the room only to come back with a tray filled with 6 red glasses containing some dark red wine or something like that. At least I thought that until the smell hit me. Oh, I'm such an idiot. It's blood, obviously.
So they're still supporting this weird diet. A vampire typically doesn't need to drink much blood, maybe like one glass a week, but of course it's good for our health and everything. And Alerus being the typical health freak always makes sure that everybody gets at least one glass of blood a day.
He put the tablet on the table and everybody grabbed themselves a glass. I shot a questioning glance in his direction to confirm my suspicions and he nodded. Oh joy.
I stretched half across the table to reach the last glass left and retrieved it back to my seat, wincing slightly at the sharp pain I felt in my ribs.
Not daring to look up to see whether one of them noticed my painfilled expression, I took a sip of the red liquid and cringed. It's been so long since I've drunk pure blood. I usually just devoured the whole animal plus meat within a week and I didn't make an effort to separate the blood from the meat. It takes way too much time and in the end, you'll still consume both.
The taste of pure blood isn't as metallic for us as it is for humans, it's sweeter, kind of like cherries.
I grimaced at how fast the others chucked down the sickly sweet drink and I tried to consume mine faster too. That was a bad decision as I started choking immediately and Rei had to get up from his seat next to me to pat my back.
After I caught my breath again I looked down in shame. This is so embarrassing. Why did I have to choke like such a weakling? I made a mental note to myself to never drink that fast again as I didn't want a repeat of what just happened.
Grimm and Rayi were chuckling whereas Rosen was full on laughing. Alerus shot them a warning glare and soon they all quieted down and Rei spoke up.
"Rosen will show you to your room after Alerus checks up on your wounds and tomorrow he will give you a tour of the whole place."
Oh shit, I had completely forgotten about the check-up thing. If I don't find an excuse Alerus will see all the scars, wounds and perhaps even the sprained and broken bones I have and they'll treat me like a baby again.
But in the end, I don't have any painkillers left and if I don't want them to find out I'd need to get my hands on them somehow. But that's impossible.
I was left to weigh out my options, I either make a run for it and manage to escape this place in the next couple of minutes, which I highly doubt will work, or I let Alerus help me ease the pain.
Or maybe, just maybe, I can convince Alerus to let me tend to my wounds on my own. I don't know how I'd be able to do that but it's better than all the other options I have.
Nodding to myself, I made up my mind to tell Alreus that the only wound I had was close to my manhood and I'd like to tend to it myself. Even though that would cost me all my pride, it'll pay off in the end.
Alerus stood up from his chair and motioned for me to follow him.
I got up painfully slow, already blushing at what I was about to tell him.
Following behind like a lost puppy, we walked back through the entrance hall and up the stairs to the first floor. Walking through the other hallway to the right, we made it to another staircase, only this one was a little smaller and wooden and it let out ugly creeks when you stepped on it.
The ground on the third floor was carpeted with a red and green rug and every step we took made the wooden ground under it creek. The walls were a deeper green and the lower half of the walls was covered with dark wood.
Following the narrow hallway, we made it to a room on the right side.
The small room reeked of hand sanitizer and medicine, I hated it already. It contained a table for the patient to sit on and a couple shelves and counters in the corner filled with what I assume to be medicine, needles and other stuff.
Shivering, I was led to the table and Alerus motioned for me to sit. Hesitating, I opened my mouth to voice my made up "problem" to him.
"Actually, I'd like to tend to the wounds myself-"
"No, we can't do that. You don't know how to treat a wound and I need to see how severe the injuries are."
"Don't interrupt me please. The only wound I have is small but very close to my manhood and I don't want you to treat it there."
"Where exactly is it?"
Oh god I hadn't thought this through? What if it doesn't work and he still forces me to show him my wounds?
"Uh, it's on my inner thigh, obviously."
Now it was his turn to blush and I smirked inwardly.
"Oh, well in that case..."
He walked over to a corner with a resting bed and some open curtains and waved me over.
I walked over to him, hesitating a bit. He closed the curtains behind me and started talking.
"Please describe to me what the wound looks like and I'll tell you what to do then."
Oh lord, please send help...
