"Dear Katie,
I'm sorry this news is coming so late, but we just found out ourselves when we got to Hamburg for another 7-week gig. I'm just going to come out and say it. Stu died April 10th from a bleed in his brain. I wish you were here with me. It might be easier to take, I don't know. Maybe nothing would help. It's been very hard to be up on stage, if you know what I mean. Astrid and Klaus have been round a lot. I think we're good for them. Distractions, you know.
John and I went to see Stu's studio at Astrid's and she took several pictures. She is so strong, but she's plainly devastated, as are all of us, John particularly.
This has made me think a lot, Katie. Why have we wasted all this time that we could have been together? Because of Ingrid? C'mon, Katie. I told you the truth. And I don't feel like living my life without the woman I love. You're still in my dreams every night and I think about you all day. Where you are, what you're doing, why you haven't written to me, wondering what your feelings are if anything. Have you stopped loving me, Katie? Have you forgotten me? Are you with someone else?
