Hours had passed and I decided it was now time to head home.
When I arrived, I was met with cold, dead eyes.
The cold, dead eyes stared at me. The cold, dead eyes which belonged to my lover. The cold, dead eyes which sent a shiver down my spine. The cold, dead eyes that told me that my lover wasn't happy about what I had done a mere hour earlier.
Not a word was spoken between us.
It was silent.
Almost dead silent.
The only sounds that could be heard were the distant crows singing, owls hooting, the wind rustling the dead leaves of trees and the occasional sound of a rock falling, falling from the castle walls that are long due for a repair.
Meanwhile, the rest of the castle stood tall and proud. However, it seemed as though it was taunting me, making fun of me, trying to get me to break down into many fragments like a mirror when broken. In fact, it wasn't trying to break me like it was on my first time visiting my lover.
It was late autumn; all leaves had fallen out of the grasps of tree branches, slowly composting into the waterlogged soils beneath me.
I had been forced out of my parents' home. Forced out due to my sexuality. Forced out due to my refusal to marry a man I didn't know. Forced out all due to reasons I knew my parents would never accept me for. However, in a way, it was a good thing for me. They were toxic.
Absolutely toxic.
When I left, I had nothing, no friends, no gear, no food, no water. Just me, myself and I against the world around me.
I was walking through some woodlands, not expecting to come across anything. However, I did. It wasn't something though, it was someone.
A goddess.
A beautiful one.
Although, back then, if I was told that this goddess would soon become my lover, I wouldn't believe it. Who would? People believe that a mortal and a godly being could never end up in a romantic relationship, but here I was. A goddess and mortal in love.
I continued looking back at my lover, making direct eye contact. I could tell she was waiting for me to tell her where I had been all day. However, I couldn't tell her what I was doing. If I did, it would mean telling her about our son, Rae. The son I wasn't going to tell her about.
Not yet at least.
Once she realised I wasn't going to tell her anything, she broke out eye contact and silently motioned for me to follow her inside, which I did. However, I had a gut feeling that my lover wasn't the happiest with me and that something was going to happen soon.
