2 - Lucky to Have You

"What do you mean you're pregnant?!" Diane and Franks mother Evelyn yelled after Diane told her the news.

"I mean I think it's pretty self-explanatory." I mumbled. Evelyn shot me a pointed look where I sat.

"You're lucky you're even in my home! You probably talked her into this!" Evelyn yelled.

"How do you talk someone in to getting pregnant Evelyn?!" I asked in shock, but mostly confused.

"Well, your life wasn't going anywhere and Diane's was. She has one of the greatest minds and you wanted to try to dumb her down!" Evelyn yelled. I just looked at Frank and Diane. I got up from where I went, walked over and hugged Diane.

"I'm heading home, let me know when you get home." I said and as I went to walk away Frank grabbed my hand.

"Stay..." He said, I shook my head and looked at his mother.

"I know when I'm not wanted." I said, he released my hand and looked at his mother.

"Evelyn, whether you want to accept this or not Diane is having a baby. I'm going to help her as is Vienna. You can be involved or not, that's your choice." Frank said. I stopped walking when I heard him speak up and I gave a small smile.

"Frank, you can't seriously want to support her?! She is ruining her life!" Evelyn said and I shook my head and walked back to Diane and took her hand.

"Come on, we're going home. You don't need to be around this much negativity." I said and Diane stood. Evelyn walked over to us quickly and grabbed my hand that wasn't holding Diane's and yanked me back to her.

"You have ruined her life! You don't know what damage you have done to her." Evelyn said.

"I didn't get her pregnant Evelyn, don't know how many times I have to say that. This isn't on me but I'll be damned if I let you treat her the way you are." I said yanking my arm from her grasp and walking out with Diane and Frank. Once we got out to my car Diane started crying, Frank just wrapped her in a hug.

"Hey, do you want to stay with me tonight?" Frank asked Diane as he held her and she nodded.

"I'll go home, get some of her clothes and bring them to your place." I said and Frank sighed.

"Some for yours as well. You think you weren't included in this sleepover." Frank said and we all gave a small laugh. I went to get in my car.

"Fine, be there soon." I said and I drove off.

I pulled into Frank's driveway in enough time to see the delivery driver pulling away. Frank saw me pull in and just waited for me.

"Hey, sorry it took so long." I said and he shook his head.

"Not long at all." Frank said as I got to the door.

"How is she?" I asked in a whisper causing Frank to sigh.

"Mom called me once we got home. She is done with Diane and essentially me since I'm still associating with her." Frank whispered and I groaned.

"Frank, did I do this? Did I make Evelyn make her decision?" I asked and Frank huffed a laugh as we walked inside and I set the bags by the door.

"You think she made this choice because you stuck up for Diane? Hell no, this is my mother and her reputation can't be ruined." Frank said as I walked into the living room and sat next to Diane who placed her head on my shoulder.

"Thank you both." Diane said looking at me and Frank.

"For?" I questioned.

"Sticking with me through my colossal mistake." Diane said placing her hand on her nonexistent belly.

"Hey..." I said placing my hand on hers. "This baby is not a mistake, they are a miracle and will have the best family and support system around." I continued and she smiled at me.

"Thank you, Vee." Diane said and I smiled.

"I got your back." I said as Diane hugged me and then looked at Frank.

"Get in here." She said and he laughed joining in our hug.

I wasn't able to sleep that night, I was on Franks pull out couch since we gave Diane the spare room. I got up and headed into the kitchen and gave a gasp when I saw Frank standing there pouring a cup of tea.

"Sorry, did I wake you?" Frank asked and I shook my head.

"I couldn't sleep." I said and he poured me a cup as we sat at his small kitchen table. We were silent for a minute and I looked at Frank. "Okay, all honesty Frank. What are your feelings on this situation?" I asked and Frank sighed and dropped his head.

"This is crazy right? Diane having a baby?" Frank asked and I sighed with a slight nod.

"I mean she is so smart but book smart...not life smart. I didn't even know she was seeing someone. Did you?" Frank asked me and I shook my head.

"God no! I didn't know anything. I mean she hid it from everyone. She give you a name yet?" I replied.

"No, she won't give that up. She just said he was a deadbeat and someone who didn't matter." Frank said.

"Frank, I know I'm not family, but I will do whatever I can to help." I said. Frank reach across the table and took ahold of my hand that was sitting on the table.

"I know Vee, I'm grateful she has you." Frank said and I smiled. "Might I add, you are a complete badass for going toe to toe with my mother." Frank said and I gave a small laugh.

"That woman just...ugh...I cant explain what she does to me." I said and Frank nodded as he sipped his tea.

"Trust me, I get it." Frank asked.

I took a deep breath wanting to ask a burning question inside of me.

"How did you and Diane turn out as normal as you both did being raised by her?" I asked and Frank chuckled.

"Diane and I raised ourselves and each other. We knew from a young age, we were all each other had." Frank said and I nodded.

"Make sense as to why you are both decent human beings and not monsters." I said and Frank sighed.

"Most likely and I think since Diane has met you that had helped too." Frank said and I shook my head.

"Not true..." I said and Frank shook his head. I noticed he still had a hold of my hand and he was rubbing his thumb over my knuckles and I smiled at the interaction.

"It's true Vienna, I think you have been good for both of us. A great friend for sure." Frank said and I smiled as we both finished our tea. He took the cups and placed them in his sink. I headed back to the living room and Frank stood there.

"Good night, Frank." I said and he pulled me into a hug which I accepted.

"Good night Vee, thanks for being here." Frank said and I nodded as he walked away. I got back on the pull-out couch and I sighed looking at the ceiling. How was life going to look now?
