It was finally the night of mine and Franks date. He planned something special, but he wouldn't tell me what. All I knew was I wasn't allowed to look outside in the back all day. I was sitting on the floor in Mary's room, and we were playing when Frank came to the doorway and leaned on the door frame.
"It's Uncle Frank!" I said overly excited for Mary's benefit. She turned and looked at him and got excited. He went to come in and get her.
"No stay there. Watch this..." I said and stood Mary up. She was super unsteady, and I stood up with her and held her hands. She giggled as we practiced walking. I let her go as Frank reached out for her and she walked a few steps and fell into his arms.
"Way to go baby girl! Look at you!" Frank said picking her up excitedly and she laughed. I smiled watching them together. Frank walked over to me and smiled.
"You been working on it all day?" Frank asked.
"Yeah, pretty much. I mean she had been pulling herself up the last couple of weeks with walking while holding in to things." I said and Frank nodded. He leaned down and gave me a small kiss. I smiled as we broke apart and Frank smiled.
"We are all set up for our date and Roberta will be here to take Mary in about 20 minutes. I came to pack her a bag." Frank said and I shook my head.
"I can do it." I said and Frank smiled and handed Mary back to me.
"Compromise, why don't you get Mary ready to go and I will pack her bag." Frank said and I nodded. I finished getting her changed and dressed then there was a knock on the door.
"Let's go get the door!" I said and picked up Mary and we walked to the front door, and I opened it. We saw Roberta and when we did Mary reach for her. I handed her over to Roberta and she smiled.
"Take this crazy child." I said and Roberta laughed.
"You guys ready for tonight?" Roberta asked and I shook my head.
"We have to get ourselves ready. All about this one until you got here." I said and Roberta laughed as Frank came walking in with her bag and handed it to Roberta.
"If you need anything please call us..." I said and Roberta shook her head.
"We'll be fine. We are just gonna have an all-out girl's night." Roberta said. I kissed Mary's check and Frank did after me.
"Good night little lady. We love you." I said and Roberta laughed at me.
"It's one night Vee." Roberta said.
"I know but we have never sent her somewhere overnight." I said.
"We'll be fine. Should I call before I bring her back tomorrow?" Roberta asked and I looked at Frank and he gave a small smile.
"Yeah, that's fine. No rush." Frank said and I looked at him oddly. What exactly did he have planned tonight. Roberta looked at both of us and smiled.
"Have fun you two..." She said, winked at us and walked away. We watched them leave and Frank shut the door.
"Okay Mister Adler, what is dress code for tonight?" I asked and he smiled taking in my appearance.
"What you have on is fine but if you want to change it's just casual and comfy." Frank said and I smiled.
"Well my sweats are not good for date night. I will change quickly." I said and Frank nodded. I walked to the bedroom and shut the door.
I pulled a sundress from my closet, it was nice out and I knew I would be comfortable. It was mint green and buttoned up the front. I redid my hair and put on some make up. I wanted to look nice and give Frank Adler the whole date experience. I slipped on some sandals and headed out to the hallway as Frank was coming out of his room changed into a nice pullover polo shirt and a pair of jeans.
"You look amazing." Frank said causing me to blush.
"You don't look half bad yourself." I said and he smiled. He reached for my hand, and I interlaced my fingers in his as we walked to the backdoor. Frank let go of my hand then got behind me and covered my eyes.
"Frank..." I said and laughed.
"Trust me Vee." Frank said and led me out the door. He stopped, uncovered my eyes and I saw a screen set up with blankets, pillows and some small twinkles lights lighting a path to everything.
"Frank..." I squealed in shocked, and he smiled behind me. We heard a knock on the side gate.
"Go get comfy, I will get the pizza." Frank said and I smiled at him. I went over, slipped off my sandals and sat down. Frank came walking over with the pizza and sat down behind me and caged me in his legs and I laughed leaning back since he sat the pizza next to him. He started the movie, and I smiled seeing it was A Walk to Remember.
"Mine and Diane's favorite movie." I said looking back at Frank and he gave a small smile with a nod.
"I know, I figured she would be so happy we were finally doing this we could celebrate her with the movie." Frank said and I nodded.
We ate pizza and watched the movie. It was almost over when I felt something hit my arm and I looked to see a raindrop. I didn't have time to say anything before it started pouring down rain. Frank and I both jumped up trying to grab everything we could. We rushed into the house setting everything on the kitchen table and we started laughing as we looked out the window.
"Maybe I should have checked the weather before I did this." Frank said and I shook my head.
"No, this makes it even better. Gives us a funny story to tell everyone later." I said and Frank smiled. He walked over to me, stood in front of me and used his thumb to wipe a rain drop falling down my face. He then used the thumb he used to get the rain drop and he ran it over my bottom lip.
"Vee..." Frank said in a low tone almost seeking permission. He kissed me before and never did, this was something different, this was going to be different. My breath hitched as I slightly nodded, and Frank leaned down moving his hand to the back of my neck as his lips touched mine. He held me to him as I snaked my arms around his neck and held on to him. Frank took his free hand and gripped my waist pulled me flush against him, spun me and pinned me against the kitchen counter. We barely broke our lips apart and I looked at Frank in his eyes.
"I don't want to rush you Vee..."
"Who's room? Yours or mine?" I asked and Frank smiled.
"Mine." He said crashing his lips back to mine as we made out shedding clothing all the way to the room.
