"Dinner's ready," Jane called quietly, her voice barely rising above a whisper. She wasn't surprised in the least when nobody came even after a few minutes. With a sigh Jane sat down and texted the queens' group chat a simple 'the food is ready.'

Catalina was the first one to be in the kitchen smiling comfortably at Jane, which made Jane force a brief smile herself, it was a very empty one.

Jane hadn't legitimately smiled for a few weeks now. It was almost like she forgot how to. It had been so long since she felt true joy. Her life had consisted in cooking, laundry, cleaning and Anne complaining about how long it took her to do so. None of the other queens really talked to her, except a few awkward moments with Catalina, Jane was alone.

Sure, she spent time with Kat sometimes, but Kat didn't really listen to her, she just talked and talked and talked and talked. Kat enjoyed Jane's company, but Jane never had a reason to enjoy Kat's, it was always Kat talking and never asking Jane how she was. Kat was young, she didn't really know any better.

And of course sometimes Cathy chattered with her way too early in the mornings, but Jane didn't have much to say, in fact, she didn't have anything to say and she did not feel a certain way about what Cathy was saying. She was there to hear Cathy ramble and provide her with coffee.

Anne came to her to complain about Catalina and Jane's slow pace while doing chores. Jane knew that Anne just wasn't good at expressing positive emotions, but over time all the bad things Anne grumbled piled and built a nonexistent fence around Jane. None of the things Anne was saying reached Jane anymore, like every word from Anne went in one ear and out the other, even the few nice things Anne had to say.

Anna really didn't seem to notice Jane ever, she was in he room with Kat most of the time, blasting music and laughing loudly. Which obviously wasn't bad, Anna was supposed to have fun, but Jane never had a minute of quiet.

And then there was Catalina. Catalina was different, but not in the best way. When Lina was around, she genuinely tried to have conversations with Jane, she cared for what Jane had to say and she asked questions. But Jane wasn't sure how to behave around Lina. Catalina was too nice, Jane was scared of annoying her to the point where even Lina would be as distant as Anne, but Jane didn't know the feeling she experienced when Catalina smiled at her, so she did what she did best, she blocked the feeling out. That made Jane behave awkwardly around Lina, stopping talks by short and dry answers. She hated the way she was to Lina and knew that she was inevitably pushing Lina away, but Jane didn't know what else to do.

Before she realised it, everyone was eating the dinner she made, while she stared at her own plate.

Below the table, Lina nudged her foot. Jane looked up at her, again, a half-hearted smile made its way to Jane's face. This seemed to satisfy Lina as her face brightened up at Jane's smile.
