Verena locked herself in her room for five months, only eating a little, drinking a little, and talking when necessary. She spent her time sitting by the window in silence for hours and that hurt Thranduil more than anything.

Thranduil saw that the weather was very sunny that day, he intended to take Verena for a walk in the forest

"Verena" he called

Verena looked up with a flat face

"Come on, put on your dress and tidy yourself up. I have free time, we can take a walk in the forest."

Verena stood up lazily "then allow me to get ready" she answered

After a while, Verena came out looking better, even though he could still see the sadness in her eyes.

Thranduil took Verena's hand "shall we?"

They walked alone, Thranduil took Verena to the place they used to play when they were little.

"Come on, sit here," Thranduil invited Verena to sit on the grass. "You wait a moment, I'll be back soon." Thranduil then ran into the forest.

After a while, Thranduil returned with two apples in his hand "this is for you. Remembering the past" Thranduil said, and smiled

Verena took the apple "Thank you" she answered in a very low voice

Thranduil took a bite of the apple, but Verena just held hers and stared at it blankly

"Maybe this was all a mistake from the start" Verena said

"What?" Thranduil was confused

"Our meeting, our relationship, everything. Maybe we shouldn't be together. I feel like I'm the wrong person for you."

"No! Never, Verena. What makes you think that?"

"If I were another girl, you might already have children"

"Oh for valar's sake Verena,  I do not care!" Thranduil cupped Verena's face in his hands "I never blamed you, we lost our child, I am sad with you too. But everything that has happened has happened, let it be a lesson for both of us in the future" Thranduil gently caressing Verena's cheek "there will always be others"

"What if not?" Verena asked

"Then we will continue to rule this kingdom together in eternity, and at the appointed time we will set sail."

Verena's eyes started to fill with tears

"Verena, whatever happens, the most important thing for me is that you are healthy, you are happy, and you stay safe" Thranduil hugged Verena tightly "as long as we are both still breathing in middle earth, there will always be a chance"

Verena sobbed in Thranduil's arms

"And I will love you, forever"
