In a blink of an eye, the figure was gone. I rubbed my eyes to see if I was going crazy or if my powers were backfiring on me. I looked up at Valentino to see if he had also seen it. He still had his eyes focused on the house, I couldn't help but examine his face, even with his usual serious expressions he couldn't help but smile while carrying me to the house. I can't help but smile while thinking how I am so lucky to have his dumb smart self in my life.
After a trip up a flight of stairs, I jump down from Valentino's arms and head into the house. I am met with Ruby waiting for us in the hall. She was wearing a tan long-sleeve shirt along with a leather jacket. A brand-new leather skirt and knee-high leather boots accompanied her outfit. Her hair and makeup were simple with her natural waves and just plain red lipstick. Valentino on the other hand was dressed more casually with a green t-shirt with a black jean jacket I got him for one of his birthdays. He was also wearing black jeans with vintage green colored hightops.
Before I could greet Ruby grabbed me by my jacket and dragged me to a room on the other side of the house with Valentino trailing right behind us. The three of us entered this gigantic room and Ruby slammed the door shut behind us. At first, I didn't notice her talking because I was just so infatuated with the room. It had two floors the first of which was filled with many bookshelves organized by genre. The second had games, a TV, a minifridge, and a slide going down to the first floor. My attention was fully on the room and the giant windows looking to the forest below.
"ALEX, are you listening to me?!" Ruby screamed
"Huh? Oh yeah sorry, what's up?" I replied
"I said, that our parents are getting more serious about this whole thing. They spent a shit ton of money just for this party! I heard that Mr. A even got a certain famous singer to play an ancient crystal flute that was found in a pyramid in Mesoamerica. My mom even told me they flew in a family heirloom to be given to the bride. I have no idea how we are going to stop this now." she said
"Yeah, we were going to slowly sabotage them but it's getting hard. We only have a year because they want us to get married right after high school." Valentino chimed in
"Honestly I don't know. I'm going to bed," she said with a slightly drowsy voice
"Night" Valentino and I said in unison as Ruby left the room.
He turned to me and said " Might as well get ready for bed"
He dropped his jacket on the floor and started to take his shirt off revealing the abs he gained from sports. I could feel my face blushing through my mask. I turned to cover my face with my hand. With my other hand, I motioned for him to put his shirt down.
"Valentino! Go to the bathroom to change!" I said in a high-pitched voice
Without realizing I had used my powers to pull down his shirt. He was startled and fell. I turned around after hearing the thud and started laughing.
"Okay! I'll go, your just mad you can't keep me all to yourself" he replied while sticking his tongue out at me.
I stick my tongue out right back at him followed by the middle finger. We both start laughing uncontrollably as he gets up and heads to the bathroom. That boy does get on my nerves sometimes. I am so lucky to have him in my life.
I let out a loud yawn as he left the room. Valentino takes forever in the bathroom and I don't want him walking in on me, so why not make life easier?
I slightly lifted my mask and the room was engulfed with a magenta-colored light. As the light faded my clothes were replaced with a pair of shorts that covered half of my thighs and a graphic T that had a cool glasses emoji on it. Along with another loud yawn, I clapped twice to turn the light off and rolled into the king-sized bed in the middle of the room.
Not five minutes later I heard Valentino enter the room. He rolled into bed alongside me and wrapped his arms around my adamant.
"Valentino remove your arms before I snap them in two," I said in a somewhat drowsy voice.
"Fine, buzzkill" he replied as he turned over to the other side of the bed.
Some time passed and I heard Valentino fall asleep and start snoring. I was unable to fall asleep due to the pouring rain and thunder. I try my hardest to fall asleep. Staring out the window I was almost able to fall asleep when lightning struck. When the light faded I met with a male figure holding a dagger. Petrified with fear I was unable to move. He slowly moved closer to the bed. I was able to get a better look and him while he did. He was wearing what looked to be a leather jacket with a hoodie and ripped black jeans. His hair had a dark blue tint to it. His face although not completely visible due to his hoodie I could tell it was somewhat translucent, which revealed his skull. It seemed that all his skin was semi-translucent as I looked at his hand I could see his bones. The dagger he was holding had a glowing gemstone in it that was in the shape of a skull. As he walked he seemed to get blurry with a trail of translucent butterflies following him.
He got closer and closer to me but then passed me. He went towards Valentino and raised his dagger. I broke free of my paralysis and sent out what I believe was a blast of power. I hit both him and his dagger sending him flying into the wall. As he hit the wall his dagger started to flicker and he let out a scream.
"What the hell! How can you see me!" he screamed.
"Who the hell are you?!" I screamed.
He stood up and began to walk towards me. I tried to wake Valentino up to no avail.
"Don't bother, he isn't getting up anytime soon and they can't even see me," he said
"What did you do to him?" I said in a worried tone
"Nothing yet. It's just a side effect of me being here," he stated,
"Who exactly are you?" I asked
"I could ask you the same question, if it weren't for that blast I wouldn't have recognized you. What happened to you and your ears? Why are you wearing a mask?" he asked as if he was interrogating me
"What?! How can you see through my illusion?!" I asked
"You're a reincarnation! Judging from your eyes you are fairly young. No wonder I couldn't find his ass!" he said while laughing
"How can you see through my mask!?" I asked without an answer
He walked closer to Valentino and tried to lift his dagger again. I got up from the bed grabbed him from his jacket and lifted him in the air.
"If you lay a finger on him, you will have to deal with me!" I said while dropping him from my grip.
"Fine, lucky for him I can use you for my plans. I leave your little boyfriend for now but if things go south I might still need him," he said
In the blink of an eye, he appeared behind me with his dagger to my throat.
"Be careful, you have no idea what my blade can do," he said shortly before disappearing again.
I fell back on the bed still processing what had just happened. What the hell was that?...
