Untapped Potential (Episode VII Finale)

In reply, Finn turns on Luke's lightsaber. Upon seeing the weapon, Kylo Ren reacts in shock, pointing his saber at it.

Kylo Ren: That lightsaber. It belongs to me!

Finn: Come get it.

Despite his fear, Finn raises his blade in welcome. He charges in with a roar and Ren readies for combat. The blades meet in a powerful collision. Finn swipes upward and hits nothing but air.

Ren slices at Finn but he manages to avoid the swing. The blades meet once again. The mantra he was taught runs through his mind as they battle. "Feel, Anticipate, React."

He feels the strength of his opponent as he is shoved back into a tree. Ren presses the blade down, using his crossguard to puncture Finn's shoulder. He screams in agony as the burning sensation grows into agonizing pain.

Rey recovers and gathers her bearings. Her eyes focus on the two men fighting, through the trees.

Finn pushes Ren off and strikes, he swings down and cleaves a piece of Ren's cape off. Kylo, obviously hampered by his wound, pounds on it, spilling more blood into the snow.

He attacks Finn with a primal savagery, yelling and angrily grunting when he swings. Finn, anticipating the moves, uses them and reacts to turn his defensive moves into beautiful offensive blows. He swings once more and tags Ren in the arm, causing him to grunt and drop his weapon for a moment. Finn gets too confident and charges in, hoping to deliver the finishing blow.

Ren sidesteps the swing and force pushes Finn into the snow. He grips the saber tightly as Ren pounds on his blaster wound once more, coating the ground in red. Finn huffs and hastily gets off of the powdered ground.

Ren charges in, leaving Finn unprepared for this sudden ferocity. Rey sees this from the ground. Kylo Ren unleashes a merciless series of blows, staggering Finn and pushing him further and further back until he stumbles and loses his balance. Ren spins Finn around, parrying and knocking the saber loose from his hand.

He punches Finn in the jaw, turning him fully around and swings his saber upward, slicing straight into Finn's back. He falls to the ground limp, the lightsaber resting yards away.

Kylo Ren turns off his saber, reaching for Luke's, beckoning for it with the force. The saber vibrates in the snow, steadily, clunking back and forth between the lumps it was stuck between. Ren gestures, increasing his power.

Luke's saber flies out of the snow and flies like a bullet towards Ren. He leaps out of the way as it flies past him and past the outstretched hand of Rey, who stands, facing him, having reached for it herself, but utterly stunned that it had flown straight past her as well.

They both turn to see Y/N L/N standing in the dark treeline, his face covered in blood and sweat as he holds both his and Luke's saber. There are cuts on his cheek and a large gash just above his eye, leaving the blood to run down his face, covering his left eyelid which is clamped shut. There is also bad bruising on his jaw.

He looks at Luke's saber and then to Rey. He tosses it to her.

Y/N: Follow my lead.

Holding it with both hands, she ignites Luke's lightsaber for the first time, her eyes blazing. Ren re-ignites his. Y/N blazes his amber blade to life. It's Rey who charges now. Kylo Ren immediately on the defensive.

They battle powerfully. He is clearly rocked by her raw, innate skill. Y/N follows shortly after, walking slowly through the snow, annoyed at her for not listening and jumping into the fray.
