Yosuke's POV:

"What about you, Yosuke?" Chie asks.

"What?" I frown, snapping out of my daydream.

"Last night," she says, swallowing the final part of her lunch. "Could you tell who it was?"

Yeah, Risette.

As if I'm gonna say that. Yu doesn't have to know. I can save her myself. I'll be the hero she falls for.

"No clue," I shrug.

"Aw, this blows," she sighs.

"Let's just wait for tonight," Yu assures her.

"Oh, that reminds me," Kanji says suddenly, wiping his face after swallowing. "Senpai, are you free after school?"

"Uh, I should be," Yu says.

Great.

I mean, as if I care. They just don't have to make it the center of the conversation; it's lame.

Eh, whatever.

If they're distracted, that means I can plan what's gonna happen when I meet Risette in person...

Yu's POV:

"Yo." Kanji smiles, heading up to my desk.

"You got here fast," I chuckle. "I was just about to meet you in the practice building."

"I just, uh... Couldn't wait," he scratches the back of his head.

I watch Yosuke stand up from the corner of my eye and call out to him.

"Hm?" He turns around, sliding his headphones down to his neck.

"Where are you going?" I ask.

"Work," he says bluntly.

"...I thought that was later tonight."

"...Well, you thought wrong," he shrugs.

"...So, do you wanna study later?" I ask.

"Study?" He scoffs.

"Do we... Need an excuse?"

"Nah. I'll just borrow Yukiko's notes when exams roll around."

"Yeah, but-"

"Listen. I got to go," he mutters. "Uh, see ya."

He shakes his head, as if embarrassed, and he turns around, out of the room.

"Wow," Kanji purses his lips.

"What?" I frown.

"I think you came on way too hard."

"I did...?" I grimace.

"Stop it, Senpai," he sighs. "Stop begging for his attention."

"I'm not against him," I grunt. "Ever since Kujikawa came into the picture, he's seen me as competition."

"Hey, he saw me as competition before that."

"What do you mean?"

"Dude, couldn't you tell?" He scoffs. "He hated it when you hung out with me. Hell, I bet he still does."

"...That can't be right," I mutter.

"You're his only friend."

"And he's willing to throw his only friendship away over some girl?" I mumble.

"I'd be damned if I knew what the hell he was thinking," Kanji shrugs. "Just leave him be. He'll come around."

"...Maybe," I mutter.
