As I reached the common room, I noticed Ominis peacefully asleep on one of the lounges, a book of poetry resting on his chest. He looked so serene and undisturbed that I couldn't bring myself to wake him. In that moment, he resembled a living statue, with his chiseled features and perfect looks. I couldn't help but think that if he could see himself, he might not be as humble as he appeared. A smile tugged at my lips as I indulged in the simple pleasure of gazing at him, captivated by his presence.

But I had to shake off these thoughts. It was unlike me to get so lost in someone. I scolded myself inwardly, reminding myself of the need to maintain focus and composure. Just as I was about to turn away, Cephy, the affectionately nicknamed giant squid, swam by the Slytherin window, seemingly attempting to greet me. It had been a year since I had last seen her, and she had been a loyal companion during our encounters with Ranrok. I recalled the time when Ranrok had nearly discovered my secret, and Cephy had provided refuge in her underwater dwelling, shielding me from his prying eyes for days. The memory brought a sense of gratitude for her protective presence.

Feeling the dryness of my skin and a yearning for the water, I realized it had been a few days since I had immersed myself. It was a vital part of my routine, as neglecting it could have adverse effects on both my health and magic. It wouldn't kill me but it was uncomfortable. Since Ominis was still fast asleep, I decided to leave him a playful note and with a flick of my wand it turned into braille: "Didn't want to disturb a Greek God and risk invoking his wrath haha - Yvaine."

Leaving the common room behind, I made my way down to the secluded cave where new students were brought to cross the lake. It had become my sanctuary, a place where I could discreetly transform and immerse myself in the water over the years. The calming presence of the cave always rejuvenated my spirit, allowing me to replenish my connection to the depths and maintain my equilibrium. As I entered the cool embrace of the water, a sense of relief washed over me, and I submerged myself, feeling the familiar solace and vitality that only the aquatic realm could provide.

Taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes and allowed the magic to stir within me. It started as a tingling sensation, starting from my fingertips and spreading throughout my body. Gradually, the tingling intensified, as if a gentle current was guiding my transformation. I felt my limbs growing lighter, more fluid, as if they were becoming one with the water itself.

My skin took on a shimmering iridescence, reflecting the ambient light in an ethereal display. Scales began to form along my legs, glistening with a delicate opalescence, while my feet merged into a graceful tail, its colors, indigo, green, purple, and hints magenta blending seamlessly with the hues of the sea. My senses sharpened, and I could feel the currents, the subtle shifts in temperature, and the presence of marine life around me.

With a final surge of magic, my body completed its metamorphosis, and I emerged as a mermaid, poised and elegant. The water embraced me like a long-lost friend, cradling me in its embrace. I reveled in the freedom of movement, the effortless grace that came with my new form.

I swam towards Cephy with great enthusiasm, feeling the familiar embrace of her gentle tentacles. Our connection was telepathic, and she conveyed to me how much she had missed me. The sentiment was mutual, and I relished in the comforting presence of my dear friend.

As we swam together, I noticed a faint glow emanating from below us, which turned out to be the window of the Slytherin common room. Through the glass, I could see Ominis standing near the window, his figure illuminated by the dancing flames of the fire. He looked ethereal, his face adorned with captivating shadows. Intrigued, I swam closer, finding solace in the knowledge that he wouldn't be able to see me in my transformed state, and no other students were around to witness our clandestine encounter.
