Yvaine POV

The room whirled with devils, fairies, lions, ghosts, and an array of other mystical beings, each concealed behind their elaborate masks. Amidst the sea of disguises, the eyes were the only windows into their hidden truths. What secrets lay behind those masks? Sebastian had been absent for quite some time, and a growing sense of worry crept over me.

Just as I was contemplating embarking on a search for him, a sudden burst of applause filled the air. My attention was drawn to the front of the grand hall, where a group of figures ascended a small balcony, presumably designated for speeches and other prominent activities. The Gaunt family took center stage: Silas and Octavia Gaunt extended their gratitude to all in attendance at their inaugural social event of the season. Following their words, they introduced their offspring.

Tobias Gaunt, the eldest, stood with an air of stern formality. He was impeccably groomed, possessed a tall stature, had dirty blond hair, and possessed striking grey-green eyes. Following him, Ambrose Gaunt, who shared a similar build with his elder brother, graced the stage. The primary distinction lay in his piercing green eyes.

Arabella followed suit with a graceful curtsy, her hair fashioned into a messy bun in an attempt to conform to the evening's formal ambiance. Despite the formality, her eccentric nature still shone through.

Ominis came next, executing a final bow that showcased his enduring charm and poise. However, an observant eye would detect a subtle shift in his demeanor following his interaction with his family.

He had previously confided in us about the possibility of resorting to certain measures to convince his family of his loyalty.

"Thank you all for gracing us with your presence on this splendid evening of revelry," Silas exclaimed, his voice resonating throughout the room. He continued with a discourse on their family's esteemed lineage and its significance in the wizarding world, eventually delving into the topic of pure-blood supremacy. Most of those in attendance shared these beliefs and raised their goblets in agreement.

Engrossed in our conversation, I remained oblivious to Sebastian's stealthy approach, his arms gently encircling my waist.

"Where have you been?" I whispered impatiently, my curiosity getting the better of me.

"Apologies, love," he replied, his voice a soft murmur. "I had a minor mishap with spilled whiskey and may have taken a detour on my way to the kitchen."

Concern welled up in me. "Are you alright? Did anyone spot you?"

"I managed to scout a few promising locations where the Orb might be concealed," he responded, his tone inquisitive. "Can you slip away?"

"We must first pay our respects to the Gaunts. They are about to commence the procession," I urged in a hasty whisper.

Annoyance flickered across his face briefly, but he took my hand and guided me toward the formidable Gaunt family. Up close, they were just as imposing as their infamous reputation suggested.

"Mr. and Ms. Gaunt, it's a pleasure to see you again," Sebastian greeted with his signature charm.

"It has indeed been a while since we crossed paths, young man. Although, after a discussion with my son, we are aware of the reasons behind your absence. We do hope this disagreement can find a resolution," Silas replied before guiding us along.

The Gaunt siblings exuded a distant and reserved air about them, particularly Tobias. As he picked up my extended hand, I did my best to conceal my anxiety and curtsied.

"Are you feeling nervous, my dear?" Tobias inquired with curiosity, his finger gently tracing a path over my wrist.

"I tend to be a bit anxious during initial introductions," I admitted.
