Morgan

His friends were fun to hang around with, Morgan thought as Javier filled up her cup for the fourth time that night. They had bought alcohol and food with them and now Morgan found herself sitting across a campfire as she watched Luisa and Leo get into an argument about how s'mores were supposed to be eaten. Seated in between them was Diego who looked like he didn't know how to get them to stop. She hid her grin as she watched Diego try to talk Luisa out of the argument but his girlfriend just brushed him aside before launching a torrent of Spanish cusses at Leo.

"Luisa and Leo are siblings, hence the constant arguing," it was Javier who spoke as he came and sat beside her. Morgan couldn't help but chuckle, "I figured," she said as she watched Leo dodge the sand Luisa was kicking at him. Somehow it had gone from s'mores to something else and Morgan couldn't even keep up.

"You got any siblings of your own?" Javier asked from beside her.

"Yes, a little brother. So I get the struggle."

He laughed, "Being the oldest isn't that easy is it?"

She nodded in agreement. "What about you? Got any siblings?" she asked.

"Nah I'm an only child. Life's great from over here!" he said flashing her a cheeky smile. He had the most adorable dimples, she noticed as she took a sip from her drink. She heard someone laughing in the background and turned to find Rebecca giggling at something Carlos had said. Rebecca seemed harmless, Morgan thought as she dismissed all the doubts that began clouding her judgment. No, they were probably just close friends and what's wrong with a guy being close friends with a girl? She turned back to find Javier staring at her with a knowing look, "What?" she asked ensuring that her tone was light.

He shook his head, "Nah it's nothing," he said as he bit at a s'more, "So how long have you and Carlos been dating?" he asked.

"Almost a month now."

"Not been that long," his tone irked her but she brushed it off. Instead she gave him a smile as she shrugged, "Yeah but you gotta start from somewhere right?"

"Oh yes for sure, Carlos is a great guy. I'm glad you met him,"

"Yeah he's the best," she said bringing back the dreamy look to her eyes, "Always so supportive. The perfect guy a girl could ask for you know," she almost gagged at the words but kept the smile plastered on her face.

The night went on smoothly. Javier had bought his guitar with him and he played them some music. He had a good voice, Morgan thought as he sang and she watched from her perch on the other side of the bonfire as Diego lifted Luisa up and danced with her. Everyone cheered as they did but Morgan couldn't help but notice the way Carlos was leaning close to Rebecca. Ever since he saw her at the beach, he hadn't spoken a word to Morgan. She mentally scolded herself for being so paranoid but it was obvious that Rebecca and Carlos had a history way deeper than just a friendship.

But they'd progressed so well from their initial hate for each other. There was no animosity between them so why was Carlos being so distant now? Morgan couldn't come up with an answer for that so she pushed it to the back of her mind and focused on Javier's singing. She noticed that Javier had been looking at her the whole time he was singing and she gave him a tight lipped smile in response. The alcohol was strong but she had a better tolerance so she wasn't as lightheaded as the rest were. Javier was probably drunk that's why he kept giving her those funny looks.

It was near past 2 am when everyone decided to call it a day. They packed up their things and headed to where they had parked their cars.

"Carlos would you be able to drop me home?" it was Rebecca and Morgan turned to find her giving Carlos a sweet smile.
