Jennie observed Jisoo and JongSuk at the table, their laughter and easy conversation making her feel a pang of envy. She couldn't help but think about how expectations had led her to this moment of heartbreak.
Watching the two of them so happy together only intensified the pain of being let down by someone she had trusted so deeply. It was a stark reminder that sometimes, the people we never expected to hurt us end up being the ones who cause us the most pain.
Jennie absently picked at a piece of roasted chicken on her plate, her emotions swirling in a mix of confusion and anger. The betrayal she felt was palpable, creeping through her as she sat at the table. Jisoo's gaze flickered over to Jennie, her own expression furrowing in concern as she tried to decipher the turmoil written on Jennie's face.
"Jennie?" Jisoo's voice broke through Jennie's thoughts, causing her to snap back to reality. Their eyes met, and Jennie could see the genuine concern in Jisoo's expression.
"Is there something wrong with the food? Or are you feeling unwell?" Jisoo inquired, her worry evident in her tone. Jennie let out a sigh and carefully set her fork down on the plate.
"I'm not feeling well at all! I need to lie down," Jennie declared, abruptly rising from her seat.
"Wait...what can I get for you to help you feel better? Just tell me what's wrong so I can get you something to drink!" Jisoo pressed, concern etched on her features. But instead of a response, she was met with a small scowl from Jennie, leaving her utterly taken aback.
"I just need to lie down, there's no need for you to do anything! I'll be fine, like I always am," Jennie muttered through clenched teeth, her icy gaze fixed on Jisoo.
Jisoo swallowed nervously, the air thick with tension. It felt as though she had stumbled upon a secret, her discomfort growing as if she had uncovered a lie.
"Good night!" Jennie bid before swiftly exiting the dining room. JongSuk raised an eyebrow at the abrupt departure, then turned to his mother.
"What's going on with Aunt Jennie?" he inquired. Jisoo shifted her gaze to him, offering a forced smile in response.
Jisoo flashed a warm smile as she gently responded to her son, "I'm sure she's just tired, sweetheart. Please finish your food... I don't want to see even a speck of rice left on that plate!" JongSuk chuckled at his mother's playful admonition and nodded enthusiastically in agreement.
"Of course, mom! I'll be licking this plate clean by the end," JongSuk joked with a mischievous grin. Jisoo couldn't help but chuckle at her son's playful banter and affectionately placed her hand on his cheek.
"Let's leave that grain of rice on the plate then. I don't want to see you acting like a crazy kid," she teased, continuing to stroke his cheek. JongSuk beamed proudly in response and eagerly resumed eating his meal. Jisoo's heart swelled with joy as she observed his lively demeanor, grateful to have her son back with her after what seemed like a dream-like moment in the past few weeks.
