As the sun began its descent, casting a warm orange glow across the sky, he pulled into Baek Hyeon's driveway. The clouds were tinged with the fading light, and the silence of the house struck him as he stepped out of the car. A sense of unease crept over him for reasons he couldn't quite pinpoint.
Hastily, he ascended the stairs to his daughter's room, heart pounding in his chest. Opening the door cautiously, he found her tucked in bed, fast asleep. Frowning, he glanced at his watch, only to be startled by the realization that it was nearly six in the evening and she was still in slumber.
Perplexed by his daughter's unusual slumber at this hour, he quietly closed the door and furrowed his brow in thought.
"Jisoo, where are you?" he muttered to himself as the unnerving silence of the house enveloped him. With a growing sense of unease, he hurried downstairs, frantically searching every room for any sign of her. His heart raced with anxiety, pounding in his chest as he combed through the house, but to no avail. There was no trace of Jisoo anywhere, leaving him with a deepening sense of dread.
Baffled and filled with self-doubt, he murmured to himself, "I don't understand... where else could she be? Maybe it was a mistake to leave her alone." His mind swirled with thoughts and worries, the weight of concern pressing on his chest.
His gaze drifted back to Jisoo's room upstairs. "Could she really be in there?" he questioned, knowing she had been struggling with insomnia and had stopped taking naps during the day. Climbing the stairs once more, he gingerly pushed open the door to her room. Relief flooded through him as he spotted her peacefully sleeping in bed, her angelic face serene in slumber.
With a soft exhale, the tension in his chest eased as he quietly closed the door, tiptoeing to her bedside. A gentle smile played on his lips as he gazed at Jisoo with a mix of love and adoration, grateful to see her safe and sound.
As he gazed at her, overwhelmed with affection, he couldn't help but feel a deep sense of admiration for her. His eyes traced her features lovingly, but then they fell upon the book she clutched tightly.
"That book... she was reading it?" he mused, his focus shifting to the novel nestled against her. In an instant, a rush of memories flooded his mind like a speeding train. He remembered how she had confided in him about the book she was writing, how the process of recounting their own story had moved her deeply.
It reflected the special bond between the three of them as best friends, a connection that was dear to her heart. Lost in his thoughts, he failed to notice that Jisoo had stirred, sensing his presence nearby.
"You?" she questioned, confusion etched into her features. Haein shook himself from his reverie, meeting her puzzled gaze.
"Yes, it's me, sweetheart. Do you remember?" he inquired gently, hoping to jog her memory. A small smile graced her lips as recognition dawned, nodding slowly as her recollections fell back into place.
