Memory serves as a precious vessel for preserving the cherished elements of one's life, the core of one's being, and the irreplaceable treasures that must never slip away. There are moments when he yearned for the ability to turn back time, to revisit the past and briefly halt the passage of time. To shield himself from the anguish and hardships that seemed to relentlessly plague his journey.
The allure of sinking into the comfort of his bed grew stronger as the night enveloped the world outside in complete darkness. Yet, the promise of rest seemed distant, evident in the weariness etched on his face. Moonlight filtered through the parted curtains, painting his features with a ghostly pallor as he gazed upwards. His eyes remained fixed on the blank expanse of ceiling, while his thoughts wandered back to the events that transpired just hours before.
"All the memories we once cherished now seem to fade into oblivion. The love you once held for me has vanished, leaving me adrift in uncertainty about our future. Would you be willing to welcome me back into your heart? Could you find it in you to love me once more? If I reached out, would you take my hand and walk this path with me again?" Haein pondered, envisioning her presence in his mind. This marked the third chance he was embarking upon with her, starting anew from the very beginning. With a heavy sigh of weariness, he slowly raised himself up, resting his back against the headboard of the bed.
"Redfare syndrome is a debilitating condition characterized by complete memory loss, rendering the patient unable to recollect their past, grasp the present, or envision the future independently. Despite months of dedicated treatment aimed at expediting her memory retention, the process remains gradual and time-consuming. Consistent repetition of newly acquired information each day upon waking becomes crucial for her to retain what she has learned and make progress towards recovery."
"So far, she has managed to hold on to small snippets of information concerning me and the children. She can recall the basic details that I am her father, and that Youngro and JongSuk are her beloved children. Each morning, her dedicated home psychiatrist engages her in mental exercises to jog her memory about her own identity. Following this routine, I join her for breakfast, hoping to reinforce the connections with the important individuals in her life."
"This is the method by which she recalls those in her midst," Haein reflected upon the recent conversation he had shared with Baek Hyeon, just before extending the invitation to stay. His gaze drifted languidly towards the window, observing the gentle sway of the curtains as they danced in the breeze.
"I have always possessed patience, for my love for you is enduring and unwavering, and this moment is no different. I will wait. I will endeavor to reignite the spark of love within you," Haein declared with a determined expression, his gaze fixed upon the radiant full moon in the sky.
"I have faith that I can achieve this, as I choose to believe that deep within your heart, you still harbor feelings for me. Even if your memory fails to recall our bond," he whispered softly before succumbing to sleep. As the night unfolded, so did his peaceful slumber.
The first gentle rays of sunlight filtered into his room, accompanied by the harmonious melodies of birdsong heralding the new day. Haein rubbed his eyes, feeling a profound sense of exhaustion enveloping his body and mind, the cause of which eluding him momentarily. Unbeknownst to him, he had just endured an eleven-hour flight the day prior.
"Already eight in the morning?" Haein murmured to himself, glancing at his phone for confirmation. Rising from bed, he made his way to the bathroom to prepare for the day ahead. After a meticulous thirty-minute routine, he descended the stairs, ready to embrace the day.
"Sir! You're up at last!" Jinu called out from the far left corner of the house, catching Haein by surprise that Jinu wasn't spending the day in bed as he had expected.
