The next morning, Sydney found herself sitting on a bench in the gym at Beacon Hills, dressed in an over-sized plaid flannel, black skinny jeans, and her high top Chuck Taylor's. If she had a choice, she would still be at her house, only just now climbing out of her bed at Stiles' obnoxious voice telling her to wake up. But, of course, she didn't get a choice. Sydney was woken up at 5 o'clock that morning, due to Mason's loud, energetic voice booming through her door. Yes, her father allowed her best friend to wake her, and probably half the street, up by yelling through her thin wooden door. The sheriff probably wasn't very aware of what he was agreeing to, as at the time, he was trudging out the door, half asleep, with a large cup of coffee and a pile of paperwork in his hands. That was why she was currently sitting in an empty gym, watching two boys work out, with her Chuck Taylor's propped up on the bench beside her.

"You know how I was asking Garrett to give me back my hoodie?" Mason questioned Liam and Sydney, pulling her from her sleep-deprived thoughts. Her best friend grabbed some twenty pound weights in his hands and began lifting them. Sydney nodded slowly, though Liam only groaned. He got up and added more weights to the bar he was currently lifting. Sydney couldn't help but worry he was pushing himself too far- not because he couldn't do it, as his supernatural strength allowed him to lift almost a ton, it was the fact that Mason was starting to suspect something.

"Yeah," Liam stated simply with a sigh, laying back down and trying to lift the weights once more, still succeeding quite easily. Sydney couldn't help but admire how attractive he looked- the way his face was scrunched slightly in concentration and his biceps were exposed from his white tank top, even with the beads of sweat that dappled his forehead and the strong scent of body odor coming from him.

"I remember that he said he lived in that housing development on Spaulding," Mason went on, his face pulled together in a look of confusion.

Sydney furrowed her eyebrows, "Isn't it still in development?" She asked, and Mason nodded. "Then how does he live there?"

"That's the thing," Mason said and turned to look at her, a sigh of annoyance falling from his lips as Liam continued to ignore the pair. "There are no houses yet. So unless the dude lives in some backhoe, there's something he's not telling us." His eyes flickered back over to Liam as he added even more weights, and Sydney flashed her best friend a warning look. Though Mason ignored her, sighing yet again as he continued to lift his twenty-pound weights. "And then there's this other dude, man. He's- he's been acting really strange. Running to school for no reason, disappearing at parties. He used to be my best friend."

"Uh-huh," Liam muttered, though Sydney knew he wasn't listening to a word his friend was saying. He grabbed another weight, adding it to the one hundred and fifty pounds that was already piled onto the bar.

Mason snorted, cocking an eyebrow as Liam laid back down, "And is apparently on steroids."

"What?" Liam sat up, pulling his attention onto his best friend for the first time that day, his eyebrows raised in disbelief. Sydney rolled her eyes, pulling her knees to her chest and yawning.

"You're not actually going to try and lift that, are you?" Mason asked and motioned towards the weight behind Liam. Liam shrugged, turning to look at it. "Are you alright? I mean, is it about the game tonight?"

"I'm fine," Liam said with a shrug, playing with his fingers. "It's just a scrimmage."

"You know who you're playing, right?" Sydney asked softly. Liam's eyes immediately snapped to her, blinking rapidly as if he had forgotten she was there.

"Yeah," he said, his voice shaking nervously. "I mean, no. I guess I missed the announcement."

Sydney sighed and exchanged a look with Mason, who pursed his lips in defeat.
