"Um, I hope I'm not intruding or anything,"

"Of course not, why would you think that??"

"Well...I couldn't help but overhear you talking to that man with gray hair earlier.."

Kaveh rolled his eyes. "You don't have to worry about him for now, he's just my....roommate. And besides, something came for you," he said, walking over to hand you a small white envelope.

You took it apprehensively, wondering if it was some kind of threat. It wouldn't have been the first time it happened after all. You slowly opened it and were relieved as soon as you recognized the handwriting. A small smile formed on your lips as you read its contents.

Hello Y/N!

I hope you haven't forgotten me already, life has been very different without you around.

I've never felt so lonely when feeding the crocodiles and they've been more quiet than usual. I think they miss you too haha.

Anyways, Matriarch Babel isn't telling me anything about your mission but I heard it's

really dangerous so I hope you're safe.

Until then,

Azrul

"It sounds like he misses you very much," you heard Kaveh say, letting out a small chuckle.

"You read my letter??"

"Sorry...it said it was from an eremite and I thought it was dangerous. I really didn't know!" he apologized, touching the back of his neck. "Is he part of your family?"

"It's fine, and Azrul and I aren't related but he's like a brother to me. We've watched each other's backs for a long time," you said, recalling all the memories of fighting beside him. He was one of the only people you could wholeheartedly trust in the desert. "I have to admit, I do miss him too,"

"Then we should go see him...!" Kaveh said, his eyes lighting up at once.

"What?? But-"

"No buts, I insist. As your employer, I give you tomorrow off to go visit him. It's the least I can do to thank you for yesterday," he said, giving you an affirmative nod.

As guilty as you felt for accepting, you couldn't help but feel happy that you were going to see your clan again. Even though life wasn't the easiest there, you still missed it. "Alright...thank you," you relented, unable to hide the growing smile on your face. "You should come too,"

"I'd love to,"

The sun shone hot and bright in the middle of the cloudless desert sky as you and Kaveh made your way to the eremite settlement. It was on the outskirts of the desert, pretty close to the Sumeru forest so the walk wasn't terribly long.

You had packed some water and food before the two of you set off early in the morning, and now as you neared the place you called home, you felt excitement bubbling inside of you.

Nothing much had changed from the last time you visited and this sense of familiarity calmed you. You smiled as you watched your pet crocodiles lazily swimming across the small lake, accompanied by small birds that sat in between their jaws occasionally.

You eagerly took some food out of your bag and it immediately caught the attention of the nearest crocodile. As it came towards you, Kaveh froze beside you, petrified.
