You're with Thomas and Aris when they discover the room with all the kids that were called. You can only look around, completely oblivious to what you could say. Then, you get to Rachel.
"Did you know her?"Thomas asked, seeing the way Aris's face dropped. He just stared before tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Yeah. I did,"Aris uttered, feeling devastation run through him. You just watched since you were still in shock. You knew it was bad, but this wasn't what you expected. This was worse than death itself.
"Did you love her?"Thomas questions slowly. Despite everything happening you couldn't help but listen intensely to this conversation.
"No,"Aris lied, though it was believable. You knew better though. You're his best friend, and you could always see right through him. He knew this too. He also assumed he could do the same.
He was more than wrong. Ever since he came up in the box you seemed to fall deeper and deeper in love. However, you never told him this. How could you when you're all constantly fighting for your lives?
Aris knew you could tell he wasn't being honest. Thomas was just oblivious to that the same way he was oblivious to the heartbreak in your eyes. Aris though, managed to catch that. He knew something was wrong, but he didn't know what. You hid it far to well. To much could go wrong if it didn't.
Something like him being completely in love with someone else. Despite everything going on, everything you found out, you couldn't stop thinking of that.
You knew people would just say there would be someone else, but they were dead wrong. Your heart always longed for him. It was driving you mad, to the point where you considered just blurting out that you were in love with him. Only something came up every time you summoned the courage to say it.
Now that you know he would never come close to seeing you, admiring you, loving you, the way you do you realized the truth. You realized that him not being able to truly read you, despite how bad it hurt, was for the best.
