That night you're in the pit you're just leaning against the wall with your eyes shut and listening to the sounds in the Glade when you hear soft footsteps. You open your eyes as they approach you and look up to see Gally.

You both stay there for a moment unsure of what to do. It's not like you guys have ever been alone together.

"Hi,"You say, being the first to break the silence.

"Hi,"He says back, almost forgetting why he came here in the first place. Thankfully, he regains his ability to think properly a second later.

"Why didn't you keep denying that it was on purpose?"He asks.

"Why did you pretend you thought it was an accident?"You question back, your tone genuinely curious instead of defensive.

Gally knew he could easily keep lying, but for some reason unknown to him lying straight to your face felt wrong.

"I don't know,"He admits. "What about my question?"He adds.

"You looked embarrassed,"You shrug.

"What does that have to do with anything?"He responds, kneeling so he could see you better.

"I didn't want you to be embarrassed,"You explain.

Suddenly, he's thankful for the dark as he feels his face burn.

"So why did you break that guy's nose?"He inquires. You debate telling another lie, but something about lying to the person who has stood up for you with no expectations of thanks felt wrong.

"He was talking bad about you,"You admit.

Gally feels a lot of things he can't explain at your words. It's not shame or feeling weirded out. It's almost like embarrassment, but that's no right either.

After a moment he realizes. He's grateful. The Glade may have a good amount of people, but he's well aware a lot of them aren't fond of him. This means he's sure most of them wouldn't stick up for him. Even his friends would at most tell the guy off.

You though, broke someone's nose and got yourself in the pit.

"You didn't have to-"
"Nobody has to do anything. I chose to,"You interrupt.

"What do you mean? There are things we have to do,"He points out.

"No. There are things we choose to do. We choose to get up each morning. We choose to eat our breakfast. We choose to talk to the other Glader's. We choose to do our jobs. I chose to hurt someone for insulting you,"You list.

Gally just sits there and takes in your words. He had never considered that he could just not do these things, and while he wasn't going to stop doing them it wasn't a mindset he'd ever had. He believes things should be in order and unchanging. To him rules are black or white. There is no gray lining.

Now he's definitely not sure. He already knew he was in the wrong when he pushed that Greenie into the maze. Even though he never told anyone he did it he didn't attempt to justify it to himself.

Since it was you that broke a rule suddenly that seemed to change. He didn't see you as in the wrong.

"Thank you Y/N,"He said so quietly he was afraid you wouldn't hear him.

"No problem Gally,"You assure him.

Something about the way you sound so nonchalant yet so caring forces him to accept something he has been pushing down.

For one reason or another Gally definitely has a soft spot for you, and maybe even some deeper feelings.
