Light falls on the piece of paper in Lyanna's hand as she sits comfortably in a chair next to the high windows of the solar. A letter from Cregan arrived earlier this morning and she has not yet gotten the chance to read it. It has been a very busy day so far. She had to run around to get all the preparations ready for Aemond's name day that is coming up. She must decide on the food and decorations for the banquet they will have on the night the guests arrive.
Since coming to King's Landing and taking over the duties of the King's wife, she never knew just how important the tiniest details were. Just placing the wrong type of flower on a table can insult the right Lord or Lady and you won't hear the end of it until the next big event at the Capitol.
They have been in King's Landing for almost four years now. She can't say that it was easy for her to adjust to the South. In the past, she has only spent short amounts of time in this part of Westeros. It is almost always warm and sunny and the stench from Flea Bottom can be smelled every day whenever the wind decides to turn and blow towards the Red Keep.
She misses her Northern home and wants to go there very badly. She wants to see her brother and her dire wolves, roll around in the snow and feel the chill of the Winter cooling you down to the bone. She wants to climb on the back of Shadow and run with astonishing speed to the Wall to ensure there are no more Wildling uprisings.
She just wanted things to be like it was before.
But Aemond is a good King and the people respect him for that. She promised on their wedding day that she would follow him to the ends of the Earth and that is why she would stay.
That and the fact that she can't travel right now due to her condition.
Her hand slid over her bulging stomach as the material of her dress tightened with every breath.
She is expecting their fourth child, and the maesters saying the babe will be here within the next moon. The twins are already turning six and their younger brother, Aegon, turning three. All three of them have their dragons. The dragons are very young and not strong enough for the children to fly around with yet. But in due time they will have many dragons flying around King's Landing, securing their claim to the throne for anyone who wants to challenge them
She and Aemond decided to name their third child after his brother, with Aegon being over the moon about it.
Everyone has been guessing what the next baby will be and what they will name it when it arrives.
She and Aemond have discussed it once at breakfast, but have not yet decided on any specific names.
Lyanna would love to give her father's name if it is another boy. So far all the boys have got Targaryen names.
Everyone was ecstatic that their third child was a boy. The Lords of the court especially, since they believe a King is stronger when he has more sons that can take the throne one day.
Lyanna knows that not all men are good leaders since she was a good Queen to her people. They followed her even though she was a woman.
Vhagar's roar can be heard from where she is sitting and she lifts her head to look out the window and see if she spots the old girl.
Since becoming King, Aemond starts every morning with a short ride to Vhagar to clear his mind for whatever the day has in store. So far it has helped him make clear decisions and not act on any of the violent tendencies he has towards some of the members of the council. There are no words to describe how much he hates the Lanisters on the council. Especially since it is Jason Lannister who got chosen to be there at Aegon's request. Aegon has quite a say in what happens since he is Aemond's hand. A title Lyanna though would be much better suited for someone else.
She frequently hears from Jace and she eagerly awaits his letters from Essos. His letters are always filled with tales of his travels around a part of the world she hasn't seen yet. Every letter just makes her miss her friend more. It would be nice if he could visit them soon. He did promise that he would come, but she doubts if he will. There are too many memories for him here and in Essos he is close to his mother and siblings. No matter how much their relationship deteriorated because of the war, they still need each other to stay sane. Especially Rhynaera. She wasn't willing to lose her oldest son.
Lyanna smiles as she sees Vhagar flying over the Keep. Aemond needs to read the letter from Cregan, he would be just as surprised as her about the news.
Lyanna stood up with some effort, pushing herself up with a slight groan. She walks toward the nearest table to write a reply to her brother. Not willing to wait until Aemond has read it. He can send his own letter.
My dearest brother,
She starts her letter, the smile on her face finding it hard to become a frown. The news from Cregan has gotten her in such a good mood.
I am so glad to hear that you are still in good health. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of you and our home. I miss the North and I miss you, Wolf Pup. Although it sounds like you are not a pup anymore. I am delighted to hear about your betrothal to Lady Arra Norrey. I will have to come and visit you soon so I can meet her. As soon as the baby arrives then I can mount a horse and travel to Winterfell.
It is unfortunate that you won't be coming to Aemond'd name day. He was looking forward to jousting with you. I already know how that one would end. With you on the ground eating some dirt. You don't stand a chance against the King. He did teach you how to use a sword after all.
She can still see how they trained in the training yard at Winterfell. With every training session, she could see how Cregan improved.
How are things in the North? Are the Wildlings still quiet? Always check up on them, they have a tendency to attack when you least expect it.
The door to the solar opens and Aemond comes in with a few wild flowers in his hand. He places a kiss on Lyanna's cheek and gives her the flowers.
"Thank you," she says and smells the purple and white blossoms, "They smell so good."
He glances at the parchment in front of her.
"Sending another letter to Jace?" he asks and grimaces.
She shakes her head and gives him the note from Cregan. He reads it and smiles.
"I see I will have to visit him soon before he gets married. Someone needs to explain to him where babies come from,"
Lyanna laughs, "Oh, I am sure he knows. He had a friend in the Eyrie and I am sure she showed him more than enough,"
Aemond only smiles, "I need to get to the council room, Aegon has called for yet another meeting. I might take away his pin if he keeps this up,"
She watches him walk back to the door, "I love you," she says.
He winks at her as he opens the door, "And I you,"
She waits until the door is closed before returning to the note.
It fills me with joy to see how good of a Warden you have become. The Northern visitors only talk with praise about you. I knew I wasn't making a mistake by stepping down and giving it to you.
Never forget that I am only a raven away if you need me. The South is lonely without you here. You always have a way to brighten up everything around you.
Take care of yourself and our home. Give my wolves my love. Before we know it then I will be on my way to you. A Stark will always find their way home.
All of my love
Lyanna
