Chapter Eight: Percy Jackson

After Hermione's mom left, Hermione and the other English kids stood in front of the TV.

"So, since we're going to be living together for the next year," Hermione started. "Why don't we all introduce ourselves and tell something about us?"

The dark one, Harry, stared at the floor while saying, "I'm Harry Potter, and my parents died when I was little."

All the demigods, including me, chorused, "I know the feeling."

Harry looked up, his green eyes fascinated and a little wary.

Annabeth quickly covered up by saying, "We're all in a program for kids who've lost one or both parents. We all know what it feels like."

Frank nodded. "I lost my mom and dad to war."

That's a good way to put it. I thought. Especially if your dad's the war god.

The red-head who seemed a bit like Grover said, "I'm Ron Weasley, and I have six, um, five brothers and a sister."

His eyes were dark with pain, and his freckles stood out against his foam-white skin.

Hermione interjected, "Ron's brother Fred died in a tragic accident. An explosion. Anyway, I'm Hermione Granger, and I'm a bit of a know-it-all."

She and Annabeth should get along just fine. I thought wryly.

Ginny added that she was very fond of cats and horses. Neville had apparently been raised by his grandmother, and Luna (who had returned unexpectedly within the last two minutes) had witnessed her mother's death.

At that, I turned my friends.

Half-blood? Frank mouthed.

Annabeth gave him a look that said Maybe.

I stood up; ready to introduce myself, but my jacket sleeve caught on the hinge of Jason's glasses and ripped my left sleeve up. I was wearing a blue t-shirt underneath, but England was really cold, so I had bought a sweater and put it on.

Jason reached up to unhook my sleeve, and both our SPQR tattoos were visible for a few seconds.

Based on the English kids' faces, we probably only had a few seconds to live.
