I blinked at Percy.

"I need to see Annabeth!" he demanded.

"She's unavailable," I told him, and slammed the door in his face.

"Was that Percy?" asked a shaky voice from behind me.

I nodded.

Annabeth's eyes were puffy, but she said, "Piper, Hazel, Luna, please leave."

I opened the door and let Percy in. Piper, Hazel, and I left, shut the door and instantly pressed our ears against it.

"Annabeth, I'm so sorry-" Percy began, but there was a cry from Annabeth and Percy's voice cut off.

We gasped, convinced that Annabeth had hit Percy, but as we opened the door, we saw them kissing.

A blush colored Piper's cheeks and Hazel squeaked in embarrassment.

"Sorry," I said.

We left.

"Oh my gods," Hazel said. "That was so humiliating."

Piper dug her elbow into Hazel's side, but I don't know why.

"Hello, Piper dear!" sang a voice from across the room.

Piper flushed an unhealthy color as Aphrodite walked over to us.

"And Luna dear! And Miss Hazel!" Aphrodite picked up a strand of my hair and rubbed it between her fingers. "You must use that hairspray I gave you, and Miss Hazel, are you washing your face twice a day?"

Hazel nodded stiffly.

In five days' time, I was so tired. Five snowball fights, a Great Hall food fight in which flaming Christmas pudding got stuck in my hair, and an entertaining display where Hazel went ice-skating with a cat. I'm still convinced that the cat was her boyfriend.

Aphrodite cornered me and Ginny after Charms on Friday.

"Girls, you must come to my dression tonight. The best dresses for my dear Piper's friends."

I wondered how Piper felt about a dression. Eventually, from Aphrodite's comments, we deduced that Piper's parents were divorced and her mother had come to live in England. That explained the American accent.

"I feel sick," Ginny announced after Aphrodite left. "I might be coming down with something. I doubt I'll feel better in time for the ball. Definitely not for the dression." She pronounced the last word with disgust.

"Oh no!" I said in alarm. "It's not a himeatro, is it?"

Ginny frowned. "A what? No, no, I was kidding. I want to get out of the dression."

"Oh," I said. "I thought you were sick."

"What's a himeatro?" Ginny asked. When I opened my mouth, she said, "Never mind."

Dinner was mince pies, guvech, and eggnog ice creams.

Ron's mouth fell open as each of the exchange students scraped some eggnog ice cream into an open flame at the teacher's table.

"Food," he moaned.

At eight, I told Hermione, "We have to go to the dression. We can't put it off. Personally, I'm a little excited."

"Me too, a bit," Hermione said. "Let's go."
