We rolled up to Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles 'cause that's what my sister was craving.
"So, what's everyone gonna grab?" Justin asked, checking out the menu.
"Chicken and waffles, obviously," Jessie chuckled.
"Hey! Isn't that Miss Ryan?"
I turned around quick, and there was Ryan, Jude, and Brittany settling into their booth. It had been almost a month since I last saw Ryan. She was rocking a sweatsuit, but still looking fine as hell.
"I'm gonna go say hey!" Jessie said, getting up before I could even object.
Jessie strutted over to Ryan's booth, flashing a big grin. "Hey, y'all! Long time no see!"
Ryan looked up, surprised. "Jessie! Oh my gosh, it's been forever. How've you been?"
"Living the dream, you know," Jessie replied,
"Who are you here with?" Ryan inquired, scanning the diner.
"Oh, just my brothers and D'lilah. How about we merge our tables?" Jessie proposed.
Hearing it all, I decided to step in. "How are you ladies doing?"
"We're good," Britt and Jude replied, but I couldn't help but notice Ryan stayed quiet.
"You good, Ry-bug?" I asked, concerned.
"Aww, you still call her that?"
"We all called her that, Jude." I couldn't shake the feeling that Jude and Ryan were acting a bit off, while Britt seemed unfazed.
"I'm good, Quincy, thanks."
As their waitress approached for the order, I excused myself. "You ladies enjoy your brunch."
"You too, Quincy," Jude said, sipping her water.
"Wait! Quincy, can we put our tables together? Pleeeease? I've missed Miss Ryan," Jessie begged.
Ryan and I exchanged a look, unable to say no.
Ryan agreed, shrugging her shoulders, "Why not?"
In a matter of minutes, our waitress, Emily, had our tables pushed together. I naturally sat next to Ryan, secretly hoping nobody else noticed the sparks between us.
As we chatted, our food finally arrived.
"FINALLY!" Justin's greedy ass yelled out.
I glanced at Ryan, and she seemed flushed. "Ryan, you good?" I asked, concerned.
"Mm-mm, I think I'm gonna be sick," she said, rushing from the table into the bathroom.
"What in the hell?" I muttered to myself, leaning back in my chair.
