Kali's party yesterday was such a blast, but today was her actual birthday, and I couldn't wait for her to wake up. I was dead tired, but there was no way I was sleeping through the morning. My baby was turning one!
I glanced over at Quincy and cracked up quietly—his big self was laid out, mouth wide open, snoring like a chainsaw. Honestly, he had an excuse. Those kids had all of us running around like crazy yesterday.
Even though I wanted to stay under the covers, I was too excited. It was 8 a.m., and Kali was still knocked out. I slipped out of bed, took a quick shower, brushed my teeth, and threw my hair up in a claw clip. By the time I climbed back into bed, Kali was wide awake, lying there with her pacifier in her mouth, looking at me like, "Good morning, Mommy."
"Happy birthday, my sweet Kali bear!" I whispered, smothering her cheeks with kisses. "Mommy loves you so much." Her big, beautiful eyes lit up, and just like always, her morning smile melted me. I posted it to IG, I was ready to share a piece of her with the world, and I didn't care that it was revealed that Quincy was her father.

She sat up and made her way to Quincy, climbing on him like he was her personal jungle gym. "That's right, wake Da-Da up," I laughed, snapping a quick picture and sending it to the family group chat.
Quincy grumbled, stretching as he woke up. He reached for Kali, pulling her into a big hug. "Happy birthday, Princess," he said, showering her cheeks with kisses. Then he looked over at me, eyes low but smiling. "And good morning, sexy. Damn, you are fine!" His hand slid across my thigh, and I smirked.
"Baby, I can't believe she's one already," I said softly, feeling my chest tighten as tears filled my eyes.
Quincy laughed, shaking his head. "Ryan, don't start crying. She's not gonna stay little forever."
