The phone went dead silent for a second.

He couldn't possibly be serious?

"You're actually serious. You want to hire me to marry your boss?"

"It's complicated, I know, but something very important is at stake and you're the only woman I can trust to do the job."

I laughed. His words made no sense. "This doesn't make sense." I shook my head, trying but failing to cure my confusion. "Marriage is a sacred thing, it's not a joke, you can't just hire someone to-"

"Two million dollars." He said over me "He's willing to pay two million dollars."

"Two-" I choked on my spit, moving the phone from one ear to another. "Two million?"

"Yes, three hundred and thirty thousand monthly plus extra for upkeep and he's willing to pay half upfront."

Two million dollars to hire a wife? Who in heaven's door was this man?

"How rich is he?" The question was out of my mouth before I could stop it.

"Nine O's"

No way...

"It's a good deal, Sisi." Stefan continued. "Just six months and not a day longer and you walk away two million dollars richer."

My mind raced. "How old is he?"

"Thirty-five."

A billionaire in his mid-thirties and still single? Something didn't seem right. I chewed my bottom lip, contemplating my next question. "Is he...ugly?"

Stefan chuckled at the absurdity of my question. "He's the sexiest man you'll ever meet."

"Then why is he still single? Why can't he just go out there and find a real woman?"

"Personal reasons, Cookie." He answered. "Unfortunately it's not in my place to share things about him. I'm just here to find him a bride."

"This is-" I ran a hand through my hair, laughing hysterically. "I don't know what to say." Living six months and most likely sharing a house with someone I barely know?

"I get it. It's a big shocker but you don't have to worry. It won't be awkward. He's barely home anyway plus he has a huge penthouse. You get your own living space. All you have to do is appear by his side. I can't reveal a lot until you agree and come over to NYC."

I swallowed conclusively. "You...want me to come to New York?"

I'd never been to the Big Apple before.

"Yes, I do." He responded. "The job detail isn't exactly something I can discuss over the phone, and if you do agree, you both need to get to know each other and set some ground rules."

My head spun, teetering with a thousand possibilities. Two million dollars. That was...woah.

"You're like a sister to me, Sienna," Stefan spoke. "I'll never force you to do anything you don't want to but I want you to think this over carefully. Think about the money and what it could do for you. It might be a tall order but it's a good deal, the best you're going to get."
