Chapter 5- Sophie

Sophie felt her heart sink as she watched Keefe leap away, unaware of what she was about to do. Her head echoed with her final words to him. Keefe, I'm not thinking anything. Do you really think I'd do anything that stupid?

The truth was, she was doing something pretty dumb. After learning about her broken ability, Sophie knew it would make things so much worse if she got fixed. She would become too dangerous, which would lead to a Neverseen victory.

She could not permit that. But it didn't mean choosing the later would be any better. Even if she wasn't fixed, she was still dangerous. Sophie could feel it. Her inflicting and enhancing were becoming more powerful, and Sophie knew it was only a matter of time before she started losing control.

But it was better than being basically a weapon of mass destruction. She could run away, somewhere to the Forbidden Cities, and never be found again. She wouldn't hurt anyone there. But Sophie knew deep down that this option came with the expense of dying. She had always known that.

But what was the point? By being alive, she only anchored the war further up, and caused more harm than good. If she was dead, everyone would be better off.

So, there wasn't really an option except to run away. She would never see Dex, Biana, Fitz, Marella, Linh, Tam, Amy, Edaline, Grady, Mr. Forkle, or Keefe ever again.

Keefe.

She had lied to one of her best friends. One of her best friends that maybe meant a little bit more. She hated that she had to leave him neglected, but it was better off this way for him. He would be safer. That was what was most important. So, Sophie teleported home with that thought in her mind to prepare her to face her family for the last time.

When Sophie arrived at Havenfield, she saw Grady and Edaline waiting outside, looking anxious on news for Biana. Sophie felt a pang of realization that she would be losing another family. One that meant so much to her.

She blinked back tears as Edaline rushed up and wrapped her in a giant hug.

"Is Biana alright? We heard that she and Linh went missing," Edaline asked, worry etched in her tone.

Grady hovered over them and looked at Sophie with a fixed expression.

"Everything ok kiddo?," he asked giving her a tiny squeeze.

"Yeah," Sophie mumbled, "Biana and Linh are ok. Marella found them."

Edaline let out a small sigh of relief.

"Oh, thank goodness!"

Grady nodded but still looked at Sophie curiously.

"Are you sure everything's ok?," Grady asked again, looking her up and down.

"I'm fine, Dad," Sophie said, pulling away gently from Edaline.

"Well," Grady said, still looking unsure. "Me and Eda need to go down to Atlantis for a few errands, ok? Will you be alright?"

Sophie nodded. Edaline gave her one last squeeze and she stood up next to Grady.

"We love you, Sophie," Edaline said, smiling.

"Love you, too," Sophie replied softly, trying to smile also.

At least her final words to them were some she meant.

She watched Grady and Edaline leap away, her heart throbbing. But she stood up straight and blinked back the tears. She had to be strong.

Sophie went up to her room, took a large supply of green eye drops- she would learn how to make some more later, a curly brown hair wig, some human clothes, old human money, and a little knapsack of small things she would need. No memories, no Ella, no anything that would connect her to her past life.

She redressed and used the eye drops and the wig and examined herself in the mirror.

"Wow, you look- different," Vertina said from behind her.

Sophie turned to face her mirror and said sternly, "You can't tell anyone anything about this, please, Vertina."

Vertina just rolled her eyes, but Sophie saw a small nod.

"But, what if I need to."

Sophie looked at the mirror and said, thinking quickly, "If someone uses the password, 'Moon set', you may tell them. But nothing else,"

Vertina sighed and nodded.

Sophie gave one last check to make sure, but she didn't need to worry. Sophie looked totally unrecognizable. But that was what she needed. Her growing Polygot ability was making it easier and easier to mimic. Soon her voice would be unrecognizable too.

A stabbing pain throttled in her gut, and she fell to the ground, trying not to scream in pain. She could feel it this time, another ability eating away at her, craving her weakness. The broken Phaser ability was kicking in- and killing her.

She stood up, gulped, grabbed her knapsack and teleported away, without a second glance at Vertina, her room, or her elvin life. She closed her eyes, and let the light whisk her away.

Sophie opened her eyes and found herself in Nampa, Idaho. She breathed slowly, figuring out what to do now. But the answer was obvious. Now was the time to settle a human life.

A/N: Hey all! Wow, that was another short chapter, but I didn't have anything else to put. It is also a pretty bad chapter, srry, but I promise I'll do better next time. But aren't you grateful? 3 CHAPTERS in one day! Phew, I could use a break, but I just love writing so much! Again, thanks for reading. I thought that this story would just remain forgotten- thank you!

But---- I want to get to know my readers! If your interested, answer this question in the chat: Are you a swiftie? If so, what's your favorite album. If not, continue hating in peace :).

Me: I guess I am a swiftie! I'm not super crazy, but I do love her music. My fav album is 1989. It is amazing- especially the new one.

Tysm for reading again!
