It had been too long.

It had been at least a few days. Or even a week. Probably even a month.

Sophie had been trapped in the "Adrelic Universe" as she was now calling it; ever since she and Keefe had stood on that beach one last time.

She had tried so hard to make him understand that she wasn't dying. That he couldn't give up hope.

But she hadn't gotten the message through.

Sophie knew it now.

When she was dying, and visited the Adrelic Universe with Keefe, it kept her there afterward, strengthening her, healing her.

Sophie didn't really understand it herself.

Which was frustrating and annoying considering she had probably missed a few weeks.

She couldn't afford to lose that much time.

But she was stronger now. Strong enough to push, push, push........

Her heart and brain screamed with victory.

Finally!

Sophie opened her eyes to find herself laying- once again, in the flower field.

She stood up.

Freedom had never felt so nice.

Especially after she had spent months trapped in her own head, then more time stuck in that Adrelic Universe.

It was dark outside, the stars glittering like little twinkling lights.

Sophie closed her eyes, stretching out her consciousness to one mind in particular.

It was finally time.

Time to talk to Keefe again.

Keefe? She transmitted.

Sophie waited before hearing the one beautiful voice she wanted to hear.

Foster? Even from her distance she could feel him smiling.

Keefe spoke again, It's been too long.

Sophie could have shouted with joy, wishing she could hug Keefe mentally.

But quickly, Sophie felt the mood shift in their conversation.

You're supposed to be dead.

Sophie sank to her knees, wilting like a little flower. She had known, of course, that Keefe would bring that up, but it would still be painful.

Painful to explain why she wasn't.

Not that I'm sad, Keefe jumped in.

It's just....... I saw you die.

Sophie cringed.

Yeah, She transmitted. But I never did die.

She let those words hang in the air, deciding not to follow them up.

You're holding something back, don't think I can't tell. I am the most skilled Empath you'll ever know.

Sophie sighed, tugging loose another eyelash and flicked it away.

Is it about how you're dead, but also not dead, yet supposed to be dead at the same time? Keefe suggested.

Sophie nodded before remembering that he couldn't see that.

Yeah. It's just that........ it's a really complicated story, and it doesn't make any sense.

Try me. Keefe thought. Trust me, I am definitely used to things not making sense. Hit me, Foster! I can take it!
