The next day Sophie was released from the Healing Center. It was a bit of a relief to be honest. She could definitely tell that Keefe knew she was hiding something- which was also true.

She didn't know how to tell him yet.

All Sophie did know was that the conversation with Mr. Forkle had not gone accordingly to anything else. She had not been expecting that-

Nope.

Sophie refused to let herself go there. She couldn't quite face it yet. The only person who seemed to understand was Edaline, who had come in to see her with Grady the night before.

Now......

She forced herself to act normal. Go to school. Eat. Visit Keefe and laugh at all his jokes. Go and train with Fitz. Talk with Biana. And make some amends while hanging out with Linh, Maruca, Marella, and Stina. She worked hard on plans for their next step in defeating the Neverseen with Mr. Forkle, Dex, Councillor Oralie, and Team Valiant. Everything was normal.

But it wasn't.

Now that Sophie had one more checkbox on her overfilling to-do list.

"Are my eyes deceiving me? The Mysterious Miss. F is ditching?"

Sophie blinked and turned around to see a smirking blonde boy walking up to her.

Sophie had totally forgotten it was the middle of her Multispecial Studies session. Her mind seemed to be wandering off a lot lately.

Keefe laughed and said, "So what happened this time, Foster? Blown up any sessions lately?"

"No," Sophie said, putting on a smile, "I just- got lost."

It was a lame excuse, and apparently Keefe thought so too.

He shrugged, his trademark smirk still playing on his face and said, "Sure you did Foster, sure. Care to tell me the real reason now?"

Sophie shook her head, "It's...... complicated."

Keefe looked at her for a few minutes before she burst out, "Okay, fine. I got lost in my thoughts and forgot I was in school. Happy?"

Keefe stepped up closer, his eyes fixated on hers. He brushed an eyelash off her cheek.

"You've been acting normal, Foster. Acting. There's something wrong. Don't think I didn't notice," he whispered.

"Yeah, I can feel that," Sophie breathed, not sure what she had just said until Keefe jumped away, his eyes narrowed in confusion.

Sophie clamped her mouth shut but it was far too late.

"What do you mean you could feel that, Sophie?" Keefe said, his voice hushed.

Sophie gulped, "I- Nothing!"

She had no words, no excuses.

"You know you can't lie to an Empath, right?" Keefe said, stepping closer. Sophie could count every sparkle in his eyes. She sighed before mumbling, "Yet you do it all the time."

A/N: Yeah.... Ik this was a very bad chapter. These transitions were kinda rushed, but I was trying to get this out to you guys sooner. It was really short and I was a lazy editor this week! BUT I promise Ill be better! Thanks for over 2K views!!
