Chapter 27- Sophie

Sophie had known being an Empath would turn into one of the Worst Conversations Ever with Keefe- but she still had expected to keep her cool.

Not running away and leaving him as soon as the bell rang.

She was probably the Worst Friend Ever. Sophie didn't even know how she had manifested or when. It just happened.

The only good thing about it was that it was a great cover for the fear she was truly feeling. Some tiny part of her knew that she should tell her friends, which she would. But Sophie knew they would never believe her even if she did somehow find the right words to describe it.

Because you can't tell anyone you've been seeing yourself with creepy red eyes from an alternate universe following you around and not be considered paranoid.

Keefe had carefully avoided the subject of their little Adrelices breakthrough, and hadn't asked her if she remembered anything.

Sophie wished she hadn't.

But it haunted her. She had killed people with her Inflicting. So. Many. People. It had actually turned her eyes red and left permanent red veins.

And she was an all powerful Phaser.

When she had talked to Mr. Forkle about it, he said that when the Adrelic connection strengthened again- re-balancing the world- her Phaser ability had somehow morphed; making her an Empath.

Like that made sense.

He had also presumed that it had something to do with Keefe restarting her memories.

So, for the past week, instead of listening to endless criticisms and questions from Vika and Stina Heks about Timkin, she spent her time worrying.

Sophie stopped walking. She had spotted her again. The figure was wearing a black Neverseen cloak with the hood on, her eyes a bloodshot red, with scarlet veins popping out. Sophie looked at the figure whom she referred to now as 'Other Sophie.'

Other Sophie smiled eerily.

Sophie began to run.

She didn't hear the shouts of the other prodigies as she pummeled through them, desperate to find an exit.

But Other Sophie chased her down, tackling her to the ground.

"You'll never be able to escape me," Other Sophie breathed, "No matter how hard you run."

Sophie wanted to scream but all she was filled up with was fear.

Other Sophie's red veined hand reached out and pressed her fingers on Sophie's temples.

Pain shot through her head in a headache unimaginable.

Echos started stirring through her head.

"Not good enough"

"Disappointment."

"It's your fault Kenric died."

"It's your fault Prentice's mind shattered."

"All your friends have scares because of you."

"Project Moonlark is a fail."

"Horrible leader."

"You're not worth it."

The strain to keep holding on to the fragmented pieces of her sanity suddenly seemed pointless.

The only thing Sophie saw was a blurry outline with tousled blonde hair and ice blue eyes shouting and running toward her.

She closed her eyes and let her mind shatter.

A/N: KOTLC EXTRAS AT THE END OF THIS AUTHORS NOTE!

Short, quick chapter. I know the transitions are bad, but whatever.

First of all: I've been re-reading Kotlc (again) annnnnnnnnnnd I realize there is already a Technopath with the Neverseen. Oops. But its fine if I made a new character right?

Anyway, I HAVE SOME FUN FOR Y'ALL to light up the mood. Get ready for.................

Keeper of the Lost Cities Snippets!

These are my favorite mini moments from throughout the series!

Starting with......... Lodestar! Let us begin! (Btw, if you couldn't tell- these are real moments in the books. Hope you enjoy!)

Fitz's Fair Point:

Then Biana whispered, "I miss him. (Keefe)"

"Me too," Dex agreed.

"Maybe that's his real plan," Fitz told them, "Make us forget how annoying he can be so we let him be twice as obnoxious when he comes home."

Linh's Laugh:

Marella tossed her long blonde hair- which always had a few tiny braids woven in- and gave him (Tam) her flirtiest smile.

"Huh," he (Tam) said.

"That's all you have to say?" Biana pressed.

"I don't know." Tam blushed brighter than Sophie would've thought possible, given his general surly demeanor. "What am I supposed to say?"

"She's not his type," Linh jumped in. "He likes brunettes."

"Gross, why do you know that?" Tam asked.

Linh smirked. "Because you're not as sly as you think."

-Lodestar page 407

Sandor's Statement:

"I can't believe you have a love life," Sophie admitted. "Talk about a mind blow."

"And why is that?" Sandor huffed. "I'll have you know that among my species I am quite the specimen."

-Lodestar page 391

K, guys. Fitz is actually is right lol. And Tam.... Did anyone catch that Tam says how does Linh KNOW that not THINK that. He isn't denying it..... Tiana moment! Also, Sandor's statement is my favorite. I just cant........

HAPPY 2024!
