"Did you see Chloe's text in the groupchat?" Aaliyah asks me as she grabs her glass of wine and takes a sip. We're out at dinner. A weekly tradition we have to catch up with each other seeing as our lives are so busy these days.
"Yeah. Gio's birthday surprise." I avoid her eyes and look down at my almost finshed plate.
"She wants us to all meet up to discuss the party. See what we can help out with." Aaliyah watches me carefully awaiting a reaction or response.
"Yeah I might just text her and tell her what I can help out with instead of meeting up. I'm really busy." I clear my throat, looking around the room at all of the other tables.
"Harms."
"It's been a year." She states.
"That's not why I'm saying this." I deny.
"Harmony." She raises an eyebrow. Tilting her head a little.
I sigh, dropping my act.
"I just dont think I can see him."
"Girl, it's been a whole year. You've moved on! He's moved on! You're both grown. I'm sure it won't be as bad as you think it will be as long as you both keep it civil." Aaliyah assures.
I bite my lip in thought. Maybe she's right. I hope she's right. I don't think I have the energy to hate him anymore. Yes things ended badly between us, but it's been so long. I'm sure we can put it behind us. Be adults about it. I've moved on after all.
"You think?"
"I know." Aaliyah replies confidently.
"Okay." I huff.
I grab my phone, deciding to text chloe back now before I forget. She responds quickly. Sends me the address of their house in Germany for when we fly down. And the date of his surprise party. She suggests flying down a few days earlier so there's enough time to plan everything.
"Done." I flash Aaliyah my phone.
"Well done." She smirks, reaching over and playfully nudging my arm.
"Better book our flights." I advise.
"You still have that apartment in Germany?" Aaliyah asks even though it's been about three years since I was last there.
"It was only a years lease." I frown. Really liked that little apartment. Made it feel like home in the end. And I have a few good memories there.
"Unfortunate." Aaliyah pouts sadly. She too loved my apartment.
"Hotel it is." She says in the same breath, shrugging as she grabs her phone to start looking.
I shoot her a small amused smile. The thoughts of the inveitable reunion in the back of my mind. How's it going to feel seeing him again? In the same place where it all began.
