"It was two weeks ago today at West Valley High, where what can only be described as an all-out karate riot caught students and faculty off guard, sending shock waves through the Valley."

The doctors and nurses of the UCLA Emergency Room watched the news cast in the doctor's lounge, on the tvs in the hall, or simply listened on the radio, except for Erica, who couldn't even bring herself to watch the news or look on social media. The school fight was everywhere, as it remained a hot topic through out the San Fernando Valley. Even though it had been two weeks, Miguel remained in a coma, Erica and Connor as well as Sylvie would visit him.

Erica was worried Daniel and Amanda who, since the fight at the high school, the LaRusso auto and the Miyagi-Do name had been drug through the mud.

Erica hadn't heard or seen Johnny since she and Connor left the dojo, but what she did hear from Carmen: he started drinking again, and he left town, and no one knows where he went. As harsh as it may sound, her only priority was Miguel waking up. Johnny could take care of himself. As the days passed, and time spun it's web, Miguel's condition hadn't improved. It was still the same.

Erica was mentally and emotionally exhausted. Connor was exhausted as well, but his was physical exhaustion. Truth be told, Erica was drowning herself in her work, and Connor and her other friends in the UCLA E.D took notice, but never said anything.

Erica was sitting at the nurses station, charting on her patient, her eyes would occasionally avert to Miguel's room. Feeling a hand on her shoulder, she turned her head, and it was April. "Hey." the brunette smiled

April softly smiled as she took a seat next to Erica. "How are you?"

Erica shrugged her shoulders in reply, then glanced toward Miguel's room. "I'm alright, I guess."

"Hey, Miguel's going to pull through. He's been fighting." April reassured

Erica smiled at her friend, and nodded, a few tears falling. "This wasn't supposed to happen to Miguel. He's so young." she said

"I know, hon. I know." April said as she placed a hand on her shoulder. "Look, you haven't eaten anything today. Go down to the cafeteria and grab something. If something happens. I'll page you."

"Okay." Erica said

Erica stood up and walked to the elevator and went to the cafeteria, grabbing a plate of chicken and veggies. Sitting down at the table, she opened her bottle of cherry water, when her phone began to ring. She looked at the caller id, which read Dad 🐻

"Hello?" Erica said as she swallowed the food she was chewing

"Hey hon. I was just calling to check on you. Are you okay?" Bobby asked as he sat at his desk at the church, working on Sunday's sermon

"Connor called you, didn't he?" Erica asked

"He's worried about you honey, and he called both your mother and I. She figured you would listen to me, although I don't know why she thinks that. I mean you do have a will of your own." Bobby said

Erica wiped her tears, then ran a hand through her brunette hair before she spoke. "Daddy, I'm fine. Really I am. I'm just worried about Miguel. I know the other doctors say he'll be fine, but I'm still worried."

"It's alright to be worried. Miguel's been through a lot, but he's going to pull through." Bobby said

"How can you be sure?" Erica asked

"Because there's certain things in life that a father just knows, and this is one of them. Trust me on this." Bobby said

"Have you or mom heard from uncle Johnny?" Erica asked

"No, I've tried calling, but no answer. I'm sure he's alright." Bobby reassured. "He'll come home."

"Yeah, anyway, I better get back to work. I love you daddy." Erica said. "Tell mom I love her."

"We love you too honey." Bobby said

After Erica ended the call with her father, she stood up and emptied her tray into the trash can. When she got back up to ICU, she took a seat next to April who sat at the nurses station, charting on a patient.

"Hey, any changes with Miguel?" Erica asked

"Still the same." April said softly. "How was your lunch?"

"It was good." Erica said. "I talked to my dad, whom Connor called."

"He was just worried," April said. "Listen, we've all been worried about you."

"I know." Erica said

Erica and April made their rounds in the ICU, when they heard a machine going off in Miguel's room. April began doing compressions, while Erica checked his heart, and pulse.

"Code blue. Respirations spiking." Erica said, as April  continued compressions, then checked his pulse, when the machine flatlined. "Come on, stay with us, Miguel."

The machine began beeping again when Miguel's brown eyes shot open. He was alive. By the grace of God, he was alive.

"How are you feeling, hon?" Erica asked as she, Sylvie and Connor sat with Carmen and Rosa in Miguel's room

"Can't feel anything below my waist, but I'm fine." Miguel said, then glanced over to the table to see the muffin and fruit baskets, as well as comic books on the table. "What's all that?"

Carmen grabbed the comic book for Miguel. "Oh, your friend Demetri gave this to you. He said it's not UV resistant, so don't leave it by the window. Also, there's a fruit basket from the LaRusso's." she said

"Mom and dad sent you a muffin basket, Connor and I sent over a basket with a bottle of wine for your mom and yaya. My uncle Jimmy and aunt Jenna sent over a fruit basket basket as well." Erica smiled

"Thanks guys." Miguel smiled

"Oh, the paramedics, firefighters, and I came together and we also got a basket full of snacks, muffins and cookies for you guys." Sylvie said

"Thanks Sylvie." Miguel smiled

"No problem kiddo." Sylvie smiled

"Where's sensei?" Miguel asked

The room fell silent as Erica and Connor shared a glance. No one knew where Johnny was. The only thing that mattered now, was that Miguel was awake, and he was doing okay. However, what they didn't realize, it would be an interesting road to recovery.
