Haunted

A single puddle of water reflecting moonlight.
A black cat skitters by - bad luck.
A jack o lantern flickers.

No one is home in the manor
No one has been for a long time.
Kids love to explore it –  haunted they claim.
The best haunted house in all the town.

The stories are fabricated created by the elders
Passed down for summer bonfire nights and All Hallows Eve.

A girl disappears that night, no one bats an eye.
She stayed out late, she'll be back in the morn.'

The wind howls, laughter carries with it, drowning out the scream.
The girl does not return.

A mystery, A tragedy, A haunting, A murder.
The ghosts don't like being laughed at.
The ghosts know the best revenge –
Revenge to end up as miserable as them.
Poor girl.  (Oct. 2022)
