Sirius Black
Sirius looks at what's left of the now-dead hare at his feet, there's blood on its paws and he tastes the terrible rusty taste on his tongue.
Of all the things he ever thought would happen to him in the future, when he was young, devouring a hare in the Forbidden Forest while in its animated form was not one of them. Neither does seeing your best friend, your soul brother, dead, but the world turns around and destiny hates you.
He, Sirius Black, is the first Black family son of his generation, heir, prestigious, rich, and snobbish. But he didn't want that, he never wanted to be part of your family. Regulus was the only good thing in his family, the only reason he could stand being in that damn house for fifteen long years.
He spent his childhood eating the best, when he wasn't locked up in his room, even after his escape when he went to live with the Potters, Euphemia, James' saintly and wonderful mother, did everything he could. to make him feel at home, and loved, even discovering his favorite dishes and making them on special occasions.
They taught you what a family should be like, what love should be like having a real mother and father who love you, not just for appearances.
They were the best and worst years of his life. As much as he clung to all the love, affection, and attention he received, without all the curses, insults, humiliations, and fights, having peace for the first time in his life outside of Hogwarts, even with all of this the guilt still it ripped through his heart, tearing it apart like a useless piece of meat, and seeing Regulus in the school hallways only made it worse. When he wasn't completely ignored, they only communicated through shouts and insults and as much as that hurt Sirius deeply, he preferred that to being ignored as if it were nothing by his little brother.
He knows that Regulus blames him for running away, he blames himself for not having been by his brother's side, and for not protecting him, but Sirius doesn't believe he could survive longer with his parents.
His time in Azkaban made him wonder that maybe if he hadn't run away if he had just died in that house during one of his mother's rages, things would have been better for the people he loved.
Years have passed and the guilt still slowly eats away at him.
He settled down and accepted his fate of spending the rest of his life in Azkaban, he deserved to be there. However, supporting Ranhoso was not something he expected. Of course, he knew that the idiot was a Death Eater, he already imagined that this would be the idiot's fate since the beginning of the war, with them still as students.
But he also figured the idiot would die, not that he would be captured dumb and thrown into Azkaban, which is ultimately his place.
Remembering Snotty made him remember food again. One day he ate at great feasts, the next every day it was porridge. Always horrible.
Porridge three times a day, or nearly so, some days he and Snape would waste a meal by throwing it at each other when they were too tired to shout at each other like other days.
They started to run out of original offenses after a while, it was the first time Sirius had thrown the porridge in Snotlout's face. His face was extremely amusing to watch, as a handful of the thick porridge ran down his chin and dripped onto the ends of his greasy hair. It didn't last long, the idiot retaliated.
It was the first time they slept on an empty stomach, and the last time Sirius smiled.
Their strange luck is that the Dementors didn't visit them regularly, in fact, they let the two swear and curse each other as much as they wanted. The one who complained about all the noise that their shouting matches caused was Bellatrix who was trapped at the end of the other corridor, now and then she could be heard shouting for them to shut up.
