Now, after his conversation with Professor Lupin, Harry feels bad about having fought with Hermione, and in the end, it was just over a broom. It was selfish and childish, he realizes now that he dismisses his best friend and her concerns so easily.

Maybe Professor Black is right, Harry isn't used to people trying to help him or take care of him, let alone worrying about him. That's why he coped so badly when his firebolt was confiscated by Professor McGonagall, and also because he had trained and played with the school's old broomsticks, the same ones that first-year children used when they were learning to fly.

Come to think of it now, well it was obvious that there was something wrong with him being gifted such a nice broom out of absolutely nowhere, but that's exactly what happened his first year when he joined the team, so he's sure that deserves a little credit. Just a little.

So apologizing to Hermione was easier for him than for Ron who was still grumpy even after the teacher had explained Hermione's logic to both of them.

Part of Ron's tantrum and hesitation in apologizing has nothing to do with the firebolt if only the redhead himself realized that. No, everyone in Gryffindor Tower knows that Ron is completely disgusted with Hermione over something much smaller.

The incident that happened the morning after Christmas, when Harry and Ron were no longer talking much to their friend, gave Ron more strength to barely look Hermione in the face.

Neville, who had stayed at the castle that year, had just returned to his room when everything happened. Ron and Harry were arguing about who could have sent the broomstick as a gift, but neither alternative seemed right. Not even when Ron suggested it might have been Mr. Lupin.

Harry was slightly distracted when he heard Ron shout:

"Don't let that get in" he stood up abruptly from the bed, jumping up to grab Scabbers who was just existing on top of the trunk at the foot of Weasley's bed.

Harry turned to see what the outburst was about when he noticed an orange thing marching behind Neville. The dark-haired boy himself looked in amazement at the feline, when Crookshanks passed between his legs.

The cat seemed grumpier than usual with a sort of sequin necklace around its neck.

"What is he doing here?"

"I think he followed me from the common room," Neville said shyly.

The cat paid no attention to anyone, however, looking around as if wondering where to start exploring the new room. Well, that was until his eyes reached Ron or more precisely the mouse in his hands.

"Someone get it out of here," Ron said irritably.

Neville looked at Harry and then at the redhead. Hesitating, he took a few steps towards the feline. Crookshanks moved calmly forward as if feigning indifference as he leaped onto Seamus's bed.

"Harry" Ron called.

Before anyone could react, just as Neville looked ready to jump on the cat - which in Harry's opinion wouldn't work very well - and with Ron looking directly at Harry for help, Crookshanks jumped on the trunk and then Ron's chest.

Ron shouted. Scabbers tried to climb onto the redhead's shoulder and escape behind Ron's back. Crookshanks clawed himself onto Weasley's shirt, and Harry is sure some of those claws got into his friend's skin.

Chaos ensued, and Neville froze in surprise. Ron held the desperate rat by the tail as Scabbers tried to jump back off his shoulder. Harry finally caught up with them all by grabbing the cat and pulling it away, which resulted in Ron getting a holey shirt.
