Gojo made some sort of sniffling noise as he struggled with his keys in the darkness of the corridor. You knew he wasn't crying, nor did he have allergies (to your knowledge anyway), so it was clearly something to fill the absolute dead silence between you two.
You were very close to whipping out your flashlight on your phone. Not that you had to, because you knew he could see the keys.
He huffed slightly, clearly frustrated before all-but-gently placing the correct key in the lock and turning it, opening the door. Pushing it open with one hand, he stood off to the side to let you pass him, and you did without a word.
You didn't necessarily know what to say. Your heart was beating loud in your chest, and you had no idea that the night would turn out this way. Yes, Ayato's goal was to see what Gojo was missing essentially, but you didn't actually think it would work. You didn't think the night would turn into Gojo not only turning down Haruka's proposal and breaking it off with her, but also saying straight to her face how he truly felt.
You walked through to the lounge room, the only light in the apartment being the lights from the city outside. You slowly walked over to the huge panes of glass overlooking said city, breathing out a gasp of awe. Usually when you had stayed at Gojo's apartment, he'd had the lights on at night. You'd never even noticed this view.
Gojo made no move to flick the light switch. You weren't complaining. You preferred it.
If you looked hard enough, you could see the red carpet at the venue you'd both just escaped from. You slowly rested your forehead against the glass, feeling a sense of calm. It was quiet up in Gojo's apartment compared to the bustling atmosphere further down below. You shut your eyes in contentment.
You ignored the slow movements of Gojo as he made his way over to you. You heard the slight shuffling of his footsteps as he stopped in front of you. He breathed steadily; slow, relaxed breaths.
You opened your eyes, shifting your gaze to him, keeping your head on the window. He stood about a metre from you, leaning against the glass, arms crossed with his head pressed against it. His eyes never left you.
For a while, you both looked at one another. A million things needing to be said, drifting in the space between you two. You wanted to scream at him, to shake his shoulders and ask, 'What were you thinking?!'
A lump formed in your throat, and you willed yourself to speak. You could just barely talk above a whisper, your voice shaky. "I don't know what to do here."
Gojo's eyes fluttered, and you could see the tug-of-war he had in his head. He spoke with the same volume, "I know."
His breath hitched in his throat, his Adam's Apple bobbing up and down in his throat.
You forced yourself to speak past the rising emotion in your chest, whispering, "Do you?"
His eyes fluttered shut, and he had to swallow a couple of times before answering, "I know."
You took another shaky breath in, eyes flicking between every feature of his face; from the furrow of his eyebrows, the squeezing of his eyes, the downturned corner of his lips, the offset of his jaw as he bit the inside of his cheek. You were beginning to lose any semblance of control you had of your emotions, your voice revealing that. "Do you understand why?"
Gojo bit his lip to keep his mouth from quivering, his eyebrows turning up slightly as he tried to control himself. Opening his eyes, you noticed the shine of oncoming tears sitting along the bottom rim of his eyes. He nodded his head.
