A/N sorry if this chapter is a mess. I have the flu so I'm hardly able to write.
-Taylors pov-
Everything hurts as I come to, and I whimper. It feels like I was run over by a truck and I don't want to wake up to face it. I take a whiff and smell the antiseptic. There is a constant beeping to my right, that's going to drive me crazy sooner or later.
There is a voice on my left, calling for me. "Baby, the nurse is coming to give you something for the pain. Hold on" travis. Travis is here.
I force my heavy eyes open and let them wander the room without lifting my head. Sure enough, travis is on my left holding my hand, and my mom is on my right.
"There you are beautiful. I'm so happy you're awake" travis says and kisses the back of my hand just as a nurse enters the room with a syringe.
"Miss Swift. It's good that you're awake, it's a good sign. How are you feeling? How is the pain?" the nurse, with the nametag Charlotte, says.
My mouth feels dry and my throat sore. "ouch" I manage to say through the pain. My mom moves so she can get over to my IV and inject the medicine into it. "this is morphine, you should feel better quickly."
"my leg" I cough "It hurts"
"I know Miss Swift, I'm sorry. This should help quickly though"
I don't really remember what happened, or how I got here. I remember having so much fun as I danced on stage and sang "Shake It Off" and then there was pain before everything turned black. Other than that I'm pretty clueless.
"I will call for the doctor and he can come and explain your injuries to you," she says with a smile and hurries off to probably do that.
"How are you feeling baby?" travis asks, stroking up and down my arm like a feather.
"my leg. It hurts. Everything hurts. What happened?" I manage to say. My voice sounds raspy and weird, not like myself at all.
Travis and my mom look at each other, and I don't like the look. They know something and aren't sure if they should tell me. Everything is a blur, I don't even know how long I've been asleep. My leg is covered by the blanket too, so I can't see what's going on.
"Maybe we should wait for the doctor," my mom says and exchange a look with travis.
"Please tell me" I argue but then we are interrupted by the doctor coming in.
"Miss Swift, I'm Doctor Heartley. Do you know what has happened?" the man, doctor Heartley, says.
"no, I remember the pain and then I passed out." I'm getting a bit drowsy from the morphine, but I can still pay attention just fine.
"you were shot in the leg Miss Swift. Dissection revealed a closed comminuted fracture and a rupture to your posterior tibial artery," he says and that really doesn't tell me much. I know what a fracture is obviously, and I vaguely know where the tibial artery is and that damage to any artery is bad. But that's about the extent of my knowledge of the subject.,
"in human terms let me explain it like this. a displaced fracture means that a piece of your bone moved so much that a gap formed around the fracture. That the fracture is comminuted means that the fracture type is extremely unstable and involves bone splintering into three or more pieces. This isn't uncommon with gunshot wounds. And a closed fracture just means that the bone didn't go through the skin. Does that make sense?" he explains.
Actually, it does make sense when he explains it like that. It doesn't sound like big medical words that are designed to go over my head.
"to repair this we used internal fixation and bone grafts to stabilize the fracture." he continues. "then there was the rupture to your posterior tibial artery. It caused severe bleeding, so a vascular surgeon got control of the bleeding before using a long saphenous vein in an interposition graft to repair it. We harvested the vein from the same leg. And after that was done the food was perfused with good foot pulses. All good signs"
