"shh remember to be quiet" I whisper as we walk through the hallways of the ICU. Visiting hours don't start for another hour, but I sweet-talked the nurses into letting is come in early. Today is theas first day of school, and I wanted Taylor to take part in it wherever she could. So we have brought her outfit, breakfast, and backpack with us. So thea can have her morning routine in the hospital today. Not exactly how Taylor wanted her first day of school to happen, but at least she gets to be in on the fun.

"good morning Miss Thea, and to you too Mr. Kelce. We just gave her meds and did her vitals, so she is awake" the nurse by Taylors room tells us. Even tho it's breaking the rules the nurses were more than happy to bend the rules for us. Thea has them wrapped around her little finger. When you see that pretty little face it's impossible to tell her no.

"good morning miss emma" Thea whispers with a grin. She is on a first-name basis with the nurses.

We walk into Taylor's room and close the sliding door behind us to keep the sounds from the other patients.

"thea? Travis? What's going on?" Taylor furrows her eyebrows when she sees us.

"We are bringing you the first day of school, since you can't come to it, we bring it here instead," I say with a grin and I can see the tears gathering in her eyes. This means a lot to her, it's such a big milestone in theas life, and I'm sure she is hurting to be missing out on it.

"Mommy, my uniform is so pretty. Grandma Andrea got it and sent it here. It fits me perfectly. And travis got me pretty shoes. They are black, so they are a bit boring, but that's the rules he said." Thea says as she nods to herself. She is still in her pajamas, not gotten ready for the day at all. We wanted to do it all here with Taylor.

"how about you go change in the bathroom, and I'll get breakfast set up for us princess?" I ask Thea who nods and dutifully grabs the bag with her clothes. "I'm a big girl, I do it all on my own mommy."

I shake my head and chuckle as Thea slips into the adjoining bathroom. She is in a good mood this morning, really excited about starting school with other kids. I'm sure it has been lonely to only be homeschooled. She has never had the space needed to make friends with normal kids, not kids of other celebrities her mom is friends with.

"I brought pastries. It is a special breakfast today" I say and roll up the rolling table next to Taylors bed. It's nothing fancy, but I did stop at a bakery on the way here and got them fresh out of the oven. To give me some bonus points I also got her a big mocha latte to go with the breakfast. If this was next month that would have been a pumpkin spice latte, her favorite, but it is sadly not out yet. I don't know how she can drink that anyway, I hate the taste of a pumpkin spice latte. There is just something so off with the taste, no thank you.

"you didn't have to do all of this" Taylor sniffles and wipes under her blue eyes.

I put down the bag of pastries before going over and kissing her softly on the lips. Hers are dry from spending so long in the hospital, no amount of chapstick will fix it before she gets out into some better air, but I don't give a fuck.

"I know. But I wanted to. youre missing out on an important moment, and Thea should have a parent by her side for as much of the day as possible. It's special"

Taylor smiles "She already.... she has a parent by her side... you are... well... you are sort of like a parent.... right?" she says and that's the best thing I've heard in a while.

Of course, I've felt like her parent forever, but we have never said the words out loud. It means the world to me that she considers me worthy of such an important role. I never will, and never want, to take anything away from her or Joe, but I feel like theas parent too. Sure I've only known her a year, but it feels like I've watched her grow up for all these years. She feels like a part of me is filled with her in my life. All along there was an open space in my heart waiting for her.
