Everyone is under lockdown and cannot leave their rooms as a full search takes place throughout the palace.
Me, Anax and Calliope are with James as we are the caretakers of the children. That's our role in the palace.
"What on Kerogen's Earth happened?" James asks us all angrily, "how can a child go missing without a trace? No one saw and no one heard anything, how is that possible?" We all flinch.
"Father I apologize but none of us were aware anything of this sort occurred until Heidi noticed," Anax says honestly and James glares at him. "You should though," James says with annoyance, "you should constantly be checking and making sure that these children are safe and accounted for. That no one is scheming anything otherwise you know what happens? They die or get executed or get banished. It's enough. Doesn't everyone agree we have had enough of all this?" We all tense and nod.
"We will do better," Calliope says submissively. "How would you feel if I took all your children away just to teach you a lesson?" James asks seriously and my eyes widen as I know he isn't thinking clearly because this sort of punishment is far beyond anything he could've come up with.
Anax looks at his father now, "Father that would not be appropriate. I know everyone is going through a hard time with the current events, but this happened right under everyone's noses, and it would have been impossible for anyone to have known it. Please don't punish us with the same punishment that has hurt us all in the past few days."
James is fuming at this moment and I knew it was a bad idea for Anax to have opened his mouth, "Guards! Keep Amadeus, Cadel and Baruch with Mother Eden. Now, you all will have enough time to find Amon and if he is never found then you will never see them again." "No," Calliope wails, "Please, I have lost enough time already. Please, Your Majesty." He just ignores her as the guards take the screaming children to Eden's room.
"Your Majesty," I say kindly as tears start to fill my eyes, "we will try our best to find Amon even if you didn't take our children away because we love him, but don't keep them away from us. I know you are struggling right now and so are we, so I will give you the time you need to think about it." James just walks away once I finish speaking and I comfort Calliope.
"Come on," I say seriously, "we have to find Amon. Let's start with Heidi, Calliope." Calliope nods as tears fill her eyes and she walks hurriedly to her room, while Anax comes to speak to Berli.
Once Calliope barges into their room, I see Heidi crying on her bed with her children in her arms and Berli is trying to comfort her.
"Heidi," I say kindly, "we need to know where you saw him last." "He was in his crib," Heidi says with pain in her voice, "and I just went to the bathroom, so I turned around for a second to wash my hands, then he was gone. So, I thought maybe Mother Eden or Berli took him, or he wondered off. I went out the door and I couldn't see him, so I went to Mother Eden and Berli, then every other room and, lastly, I double-checked the room. He's gone."
Anax sighs, "Good to hear you didn't just panic and did a thorough search. Berli, do you know anything that might be a clue?" Berli shakes his head, "I don't know who would be out to get him unless Kamali has turned against all of Mother's children." Anax sighs deeply, "I will do a thorough check of the outdoor area. Calliope, you do downstairs and the first-floor rooms. Athena, the mother's room and all the other rooms. I'll come help once I am done." Heidi's tears continue to fall, "Thanks for searching for him. Please find him."
We all head out and continue looking about as we discussed.
Soon, Anax comes to help me because no one is outside.
We hear a scream again and we rush towards it.
"What's wrong?" I ask the maid and she trembles. "There are ghosts in this house," the maid says as she shakes uncontrollably, "the curtains keep moving even without wind and doors keep opening and shutting." "That's weird," Calliope says as she looks around the room. I see the curtain moving so I walk towards it and try to feel if anything is there, then I yelp as I feel something and it giggles, "Amon? How did you get here?"
