For Peace
Idealistic youth
not far removed from school
romanticizing the bearing of arms
gung ho to join the fray
and live a victory day
How sad to find
behind the cheers
the tattered truth of human agony
faced with facts that stun
it was a dream that could not be won
On every side
the human waste
offered up to greed and power
shattering that unripe heart
tearing of the faith apart
Reflecting on decisions made
personal vows for change
cast down the arms, the anger, the hate
choose instead the helping hand
make brotherhood a final stand
Return to those youthful days
of enthusiasm rampant
use the energy to carve a new path
encourage intolerant differences to cease
march together
arm in arm
hand in hand
heart in heart
down the wonderful road to peace
