 A Moment of Peace

Restless -

her furtive glances.

'Take me home,' she says

'Mama, get some sleep,' he dances

Around the issue

'Tomorrow, I'll take you.'

Forced to be content

She closes her eyes -

Reliving the moments

Of youth's pride.

Colours of green and red

Hues of White and black

As they paraded down the street

Waving their country's flag.

But before they knew it,

Fire pelted from the heavens -

From their homes they were ousted

From their homeland they were driven.

But those days are behind her

Now her hair greys, and her bones ache

She just wants to get closure

A moment of peace under the soil of her state.
