At first I felt bad about the whole thing. Like I was crazy. Really, I was. And, I was raised in the Church, so I had a lot of guilt until Richard saw me the way I saw him.

As the days passed, visiting Richard became more and more normal. Hearing him. Smelling cigarettes, earthy cologne. Then one day he took a call that ended with, "All right already, Mark, I get it. I'm on my way."

He strode inside. I peeked. The glass door bounced against the jamb, stayed open. He didn't notice it, took his keys, and left.
