Susan. Susan, Susan. I never liked that name. 'Susan'. Such a nasty, slithering sound. Susan. Richard's mother was prettier than most Susans, and younger than most mothers of forty-year-old men. I wasn't sure if I believed she was his mom when Richard pointed her out during the eulogy.
Then, I was destroyed by what happened with Julius. Alone. Of course I had Richard, but it was so good to have someone outside the relationship to be my friend. Grayson, then Julius. But when she approached us after the service, she seemed so enthusiastic—I thought she could be my new one.
