I knew he wouldn't be home for awhile, but I left as soon as I found that key because I didn't want to take a chance. I had a copy made, then, with trembling hands, returned, and let myself in through the front. After replacing the key, I examined the loose sketches without touching. Beautiful. Everything was so soft. Like a dream. And these lucky women, to be seen by him like this! A few weeks before, I'd heard him tell a girl he wasn't 'seeing anyone right now'. Was it true? Would it be true once he knew me?
