As we talked, I remembered the year before when he had gone to Chicago, then called me with car trouble. He'd had to stay the night in a hotel. For some reason I got angry and started to wonder, but I said, "Okay," and hung up.
After a few minutes, I called Julius. "Will you tell me when Richard gets there? I just have a bad feeling, I want to make sure he's all right."
I could hear his father's frown. "Richard doesn't have an appointment with me today, Delilah."
I felt very cold. "Oh," I said. "Okay, thank you."
