I laughed. "Don't worry, some days I don't believe half of what he says."
"That's because you're a smart girl. Maybe one of these days you'll get really smart and throw his ass out."
And again, I laughed, because it was funny, and because I knew that could never happen. Throwing Richard out, trying to end the relationship for any reason at all—it would end my life. I knew all that for certain now, the way he'd talked about wanting to kill Grayson just because he was my friend. What would he do to me if I left him?
